Rumor: Rogue One Blu-ray out late March?

Per a listing for a Rogue One magazine spotted on Amazon, it seems that we could be seeing a March 28 release date for Rogue One on Blu-Ray.

This is about the same timeframe that as The Force Awakens‘ home release, so I don’t see any reason to be particularly doubtful. TFA also did a staggered release, with the digital copy coming a few days early.

The date also gives us a slight buffer before The Last Jedi promotion begins in earnest at Celebration in mid-April.

Lucasfilm: “No plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance” as Leia

Lucasfilm has outright denied a recent report that said they’ve been negotiating wit Carrie Fisher’s estate to digitally recreate her for future films. The statement:

We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.

Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.

The rumor originated on the BBC earlier this week, and was first reported by SWNN, with an expansion by io9.

Rian Johnson actually talks about Episode VIII

Episode VIII director Rian Johnson actually said something new! For USA Today’s 2017 movie preview, he said that “a large part of the movie” will address why Luke is on Ahch-To and what he’ll do next, as well as Rey’s “realization that she has this power and this gift.” It’s not the most shocking of revelations, but it’s more than we’ve gotten in quite a while.

Rumor: Woody Harrelson in talks for Han Solo mentor role

Variety reports today that Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games, Zombieland) is in talks to play a mentor figure to Alden Ehrenreich’s young Han Solo. Kathleen Kennedy said last month that they expect to begin filming in February.

Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke are the only confirmed cast members for film so far, which is being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Recently, rumors have been swirling that the movie will be pushed back to December 13, 2018. It was originally announced for May 25, but after Rogue One’s success, I’d be very surprised if it doesn’t move. (Maintaining the May release date would likely butt it right into the home release promotional window for Episode VIII.) Lucasfilm has only been using the year in their most recent announcements.

Harrelson will next be seen in War of the Planet of the Apes.

Catching up with Episode VIII: New stormtrooper, Rey’s parentage (and speculation thereof)

fn-2199-cropMaking Star Wars has word of a new type of stormtrooper who’ll (reportedly) appear in Episode VIII, as well as some small changes on the standard troopers.

→ This Daisy Ridley interview with Vulture has been making the rounds, mainly because she says we’ll see the answer to Rey’s parentage question “in a year,” and, well, the internet.

→ Speaking of Rey’s parentage, there’s a bonkers but just crazy enough to maybe theory over at Force Material. It’s based on a “paranoid ‘70s conspiracy thriller” and hell, it still makes more sense than Snoke being Plagueis or any of the other bullshit we’ve had to put up with. But mostly, it amused me, and how often do fan theories manage that? (Not often.)
