Today in Rogue One: Behind-the-scenes shots, Donnie Yen, new posters

ro-bts-swaStar Wars Aficionado got their hands on some new behind the scenes shots from Rogue One.

→ Jetset magazine has an interview with Donnie Yen, where he talks about initially turning down Rogue One and how it was his idea to make Chirrut blind. Though no, the character still isn’t Force-sensitive. (via)

→ On Twitter: Two new posters for Mexico and Latin America and a pair of behind the scenes shots from filming at the Canary Wharf tube station.

The Rogue One advertising blitz is taking off

Lucasfilm released a new tv spot – our first for the movie itself – for Rogue One today. The pieces are (mostly) familiar, but assembly may raise some questions on what we know so far. (Though recall the TFA trailers also had bits of dialogue that didn’t make the final cut.)

NYT highlights female fans of Star Wars

tfa-rey-climb

The New York Times has a feature on female Star Wars fans today, including several familiar names, like Johnamarie Macias of The Wookiee Gunner, Tricia Barr of the podcast Fangirls Going Rogue and Lauren Kell of the Women of Star Wars Tumblr.

It’s all fairly basic info to anyone who’s been hanging around fandom recently – even if you haven’t been around long enough to be classified as a relic. But at the end of the day, what’s old hat to us is still in the New York Times today. And isn’t that something?

And yeah, I probably do need to update that FAQ page. Whoops.

Gareth Edwards on reverse engineering Rogue One

ro-jyn-k2-usat1200

It’s holiday movie preview season, and that means that Rogue One director Gareth Edwards is making the rounds. Entertainment Weekly also gets a new photo and some chatter about having to reverse engineer the film from the ending, while USA Today also gets a new pic (above), but another interesting quote, namely “the film doesn’t unfold how you think.” So everyone doesn’t die?

Felicity Jones talks Jyn, her favorite Disney princess and bruises in Vanity Fair.

→ Nissan has a new Star Wars themed commercial that ties their Rogue SUV with Rogue One. Naturally, it features Rebel troopers, stormtroopers, K-2SO and more.

→ What if Rogue One starred Jar Jar Binks? Olly Gibbs (and Photoshop) has the answer.

The catchup: Rogue One villains, music and jackets

ro-trailer2-vader

At USA Today, Director Gareth Edwards talks about the Empire, Darth Vader and how Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Orson Krennic differs from the other high-ranking Imperials we’ve met.

→ Composer Michael Giacchino on the film’s tight schedule, and loving Jyn.

→ Speaking of Jyn, Felicity Jones was on Kimmel last night.

→ Want Jyn and Cassian’s jackets? Check out the versions from Musterbrand. (Which also has some The Force Awakens-inspired cardigans.)

Also, there’s a rumor going around that we might get word on ticket sales soon… Perhaps this afternoon? What drops then? Hmm. Nope!

Meet the Ersos and Orson Krennic in first Catalyst excerpt

ro-trailer2-ds-sky

catalyst700USA Today has our first excerpt of the Rogue One tie-in novel Catalyst. The article also contains a few insights from Pablo Hidalgo about the inspirations Lucasfilm drew from for the film. Here’s one:

“It’s no accident that we’ve taken a look at the Manhattan project and what was happening at Los Alamos laboratories during the tail end of World War II. Being able to look at that kind of thing through history and then apply the Star Wars filter to it is really fascinating.”

I do find it interesting that Lyra seems to be a viewpoint character… Here’s hoping she gets more to do throughout the novel.

Catalyst, by James Luceno (Tarkin) is out in hardcover and ebook on November 15 from Del Rey.
