A flash from the past: Fifty reasons why Return of the Jedi sucks. My dead mother was an Ewok, you insensitive pricks! (via SF Signal)
Links for breakfast: Bite-size news
With blackjack! And hookers!
- Hot rumor mill action! Jim Hill wonders if Lucasfilm and Disney are plotting something. Oh, oh! A land war in Asia!
Elsewhere in the media…
- David Lynch (briefly) talks about George’s offer to direct ROTJ. Sadly lacking in wacky Lynch-ness. (via)
- Star Wars-inspired shoes much less Star Wars-looking than expected. I am underwhelmed. Really, you could throw a SW logo on pretty much anything made of shiny black leather and call it Vader-inspired.
- Video of George Lucas at the D5 conference.
- I bet Phil knows this guy. Also every time I see the headline I think it says Mary Franklin.
- Star Wars namechecked in column on movie soundtracks, surprisingly absolutely no one.
- Artist re-envisions critic as a Hutt. Naturally. (via)

Gene Siskel and Robert Ebert debate John Simon on the merits of Star Wars in 1983. I’d sure hate to have been Simon’s kid… (via)
Movie might-have-beens
The best movies never made. Lots of sci-fi, naturally: Disney’s A Princess of Mars? James Cameron’s Spider-Man? Weird.
I have one for ya: David Lynch’s Return of the Jedi. Although having seen his version of Dune, perhaps it was for the best.
From the Blogside
Mike of the blog Mmmm has, for the past month or so, posting about Star Wars and reviewing the saga. Going chronologically, he rolls through The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, the Holiday Special, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
I’ll give the guy credit – he takes a mostly even-handed approach to the saga (even the Holiday Special – we all know it’s exactly that wretched, though he pans the Ewoks more than I think is necessary.) But, overall – a good read.
Second only to the Corleones
Moviefone’s 25 best movie sequels of all time has Return of the Jedi at 21 and Empire Strikes back at #2, with lots of other familiar faces along the way.
CIV: Six-movie marathon

Ten years (and a day) of ROTJ:SE
Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the release date of Return of the Jedi: Special Edition! My Theater Edition Luke still remains safe somewhere in my closet.

Rose Bowl Highlights from Starwars.com, with a lot of footage you won’t see elsewhere, including Mary’s serenade. Also from Pasadena, The Troopers on the Bus and Disco Steve, (not Sansweet) who appears to be… I don’t know.
All the stuff I didn’t link last week
- Star Wars Gangsta Rap Live. Well, it’s Memorex. But still funny.
- Gollum & Smeagol sing Barry White
- Early Return of the Jedi trailer. Watching any of the OT trailers periodically is helpful to remind you just how far trailers have come…
- Star Wars and Religious Message.
- Colbert on the iPhone. The dreaded double wag! NASA! Nerd put-downs!
