The new season of Star Wars Resistance continues with ‘A Quick Salvage Run,’ and it looks like the Colossus crew finally gets to D’Qar… After everyone has cleared out.
The Colossus is in dire need of hyperfuel, and Kaz suggests they take it from a downed First Order ship. However, the salvage mission is compromised when the First Order shows up.
When it was announced that Star Wars Resistance would end after only two seasons, fans were taken a bit bu surprise – but according to the higher ups, that was always the plan.
“We were using the movies as a guideline,” executive producer Brandon Auman explained. “We felt that Season 1 is like, you know, it all takes place on a planet then Season 2, it now takes place in space. And now it’s going to lead, boom, right into the last movie.”
Makes sense – it’s easy to forget that Resistance is only Lucasfilm Animation’s third show – and the first to deal primarily with movies that are still in production.
Star Wars Resistance will end with its second season, Lucasfilm announced today as they dropped the new trailer. It will premiere Sunday, October 6 at 10:30 p.m. on the Disney Channel.
The new season will take place during The Last Jedi as we lead up to The Rise of Skywalker. Joining the cast as guest roles are Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike) as Ax Tagrin, Daveed Diggs (Hamilton) as Norath Kev, and Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) as the Aeosian Queen. And sorry, Adam Driver fans – Skywalker Sound vet Matthew Wood (The Clone Wars) will be voicing Kylo Ren.
More details:
The story picks up after a harrowing escape from the First Order, as the Colossus and all its residents find themselves lost in space, pursued by Agent Tierny and Commander Pyre. Kaz and team also face a myriad of new dangers along the way including bounty hunters, a suspicious Hutt, General Hux and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. Meanwhile, Tam grapples with her future and where her true allegiance lies, with her friends or the First Order. The thrilling final season will showcase how the unlikeliest of heroes can help spark hope across the galaxy.
Is it the end of the line for cartoon Blu-Rays? Resistance season 1 is being released on August 20 – but only on DVD, instead of both Blu-ray and DVD like the past cartoon releases. Presumably this means the adult audience has chosen to purchase digitally – or the looming launch of Disney+ is expected to take up the slack.
Star Wars Resistance is up for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Children’s Program. It’s up against A Series Of Unfortunate Events, Carmen Sandiego, Song Of Parkland and When You Wish Upon A Pickle: A Sesame Street Special. Rebels was nominated in the same category in 2017 and 2018.
Star Wars alumni up for Emmys this year include Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Actress in a Comedy and Writing for Fleabag; Drama Writing for Killing Eve, plus both shows are up for Outstanding Series in their respective categories), Emilia Clarke (Lead Actress in a Drama for Game of Thrones), Gwendoline Christie (Supporting Actress in a Drama, also Game of Thrones), and Benicio Del Toro (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for Escape At Dannemora.)
The first season of Star Wars Resistance wraps up with Sunday’s ‘No Escape, Part 2.’
Kaz and Torra free Yeager and Doza, but Tam is going to be escorted off world by the First Order. Kaz comes up with a crazy plan, using Neeku’s help to upset the platform – literally. The First Order are temporarily thwarted, but return to destroy Kaz and crew…
Three Star Wars animation panels will be held a Celebration Chicago: Rebels on Saturday, The Clone Wars on Sunday and Resistance on Monday. Star Wars Resistance is officially on The Force Awakens’ turf with ‘No Escape, Part 1’.
Kaz and his friends devise a plan to break out Tam, Doza and Yeager. But before they can, troopers begin bearing down and Kaz and CB-23 are soon on their own. Kaz unites with Torra to save their friends and family, but they soon bear witness to the full might of the First Order.
Since last week’s Star Wars Resistance ended on a cliffhanger, I’m putting next week’s preview under the cut. If you haven’t caught up yet, ‘The Disappeared’ is now on the app, though it didn’t show up until Monday, I believe.
