Where’s Greg Weisman? Bryan Young points out some weirdness regarding Weisman and Rebels at SDCC. Weird – if he’d left Rebels for something else, even something secret and non-Wars, why answer the way he did? Why fav Bryan’s tweets about his absence? Something here is definitely fishy.
SDCC video: Interview with Adam Bray
James talks to Adam Bray, author of Star Wars Rebels: The Visual Guide, at San Diego Comic-Con.
John Jackson Miller on canon: “The universe is the same.”
Newsarama has another interview with John Jackson Miller about A New Dawn.He does have some wise words on canon and the Legends label:
I really think it’s a mistake for people to play the canon/not-canon parlor game. What they said when they made the announcement is that the previous material wasn’t being discarded, it would be drawn from – inspirations and ideas would come from it. The planets are the same; the species are the same. You know, the Rebels series uses the same manufacturer of the TIE fighters that was introduced in the Role Playing Games years ago. My book revolves around a strategic compound that I introduced back in KOTOR years ago! The universe is the same.
The thing about “Legends,” and that’s the word on the cover of the previous material: Legends can be true, in part or in whole. They inspire, they are sort of like the King Arthur story – parts of that, little bits of that here and there are true.
He goes on to talk about A New Dawn specifically and some of the other things he’s working on. And don’t forget to check out James’ video interview!
SDCC: The three Star Wars ladies of Hasbro
The Hasbro panel at SDCC seems to have been, well, a Hasbro panel. Dan Brooks liveblogged it for StarWars.com, and above you see the female figures: The Black Series Medal Ceremony Leia will be in the 3.75-inch line, and for Rebels, Hera and Sabine each come in two-packs with troopers.
Thursday at SDCC: Rebels, Her Universe
Our very own JJ – JawaJames – is at San Diego Comic-Con, and he’s now shared his pictures from Thursday, including the con floor, the Rebels panel, and a few things pre-screening. Amy Ratcliffe had a few thoughts on the screening for IGN, but all I’m seeing on Twitter this morning is praise – even from folks who couldn’t get into The Clone Wars.
Also last night was the Her Universe fashion show – of course, it happened at the same time as the Rebels panel. Tricia collected some tweets and things, and here’s our own Caitlin in her Padme dress. The winners were the ladies of the Back to the Future and Once Upon a Time dresses. And the new Her Universe licensee is Studio Ghibli, which I admit I never would have guessed. A Totoro dress is coming. I expect we’ll hear more today.
The big ticket for Star Wars today – for our purposes, anyway – is the Del Rey book panel (2 p.m. PDT, 5 p.m. EDT) but Hasbro is up at noon PDT/3:00 EDT so there’ll be a lot of toy news coming up as well.
SDCC: Star Wars Rebels debuts new trailer!
The Rebels panel at SDCC just wrapped up, and while there wasn’t really anything I’d consider huge news, they did debut a brand new trailer with quite a bit of new footage – and a few surprises.
Several clips were shown – here’s one:
Another is up on Entertainment Weekly.
The panel was live-blogged by Dan Brooks at StarWars.com, and the swag (first tweeted by James!) did reveal an Imperial Propaganda site, Holonet News. TFN has full audio.
There’s also another pre-panel video interview with Filoni, Prinze and Marshall on IGN.
And finally, tweets from the panel below the cut! Although there was a moment when someone questioned Tiya Sircar’s ‘geek cred’ (really, dudes?) it seems to have gone rather well.

SDCC: Rebels cast speaks
Rebels cast speaks at Comic-Con. It’s not panel time yet (6pm PDT/9pm EDT) but Vanessa Marshall, Tiya Sircar, Steve Blum, and Taylor Gray answered a few fan questions live a little bit ago – and you can catch up at the link!
SDCC: Wednesday night at the con of cons
Last night’s SDCC preview and Hitfix/Rebels party seems to have been big hits – at right, our first look at the Sabine and Hera figures from none other than Dave Filoni himself. Yakface and Jedi Temple Archives have Hasbro booth pics for you toy die-hards.
Hitfix themselves and The Daily Dot have writeups of the party and TFN collected preview night and party tweets. And for those who want to look beyond Star Wars, /Film has nice roundup of some other things on the floor.
First look at Lucasfilm’s SDCC pavilion
On StarWars.com this morning, Mary Franklin shares some pictures from the Lucasfilm Pavilion at San Diego Comic-Con. (Though not the one above – that’s from her Twitter.) The con officially begins tonight, with the Rebels panel on Thursday and three book panels on Friday.
Episode VII news is not expected, unless it comes via the grapevine (or Mary’s video wall, but that’s a long shot.) And while the rumor mill is saying we might get an announcement of a Princess Leia comic from Marvel, I’m not sure where that would happen: At the A New Dawn panel, which seems focused on Del Rey? None of Marvel’s own panels seem to fit the bill.
In any case, don’t forget about the Rebels screening and HitFix party!
Video: New extended trailer for Rebels
A new trailer for Rebels showed up in the middle of the night, because why not, I guess. This one contains some new footage in addition to what we’ve seen in the first few clips and trailers, plus a date of ‘October.’
They’re also having a preview screening at SDCC.
