In his latest post on Star Wars mysteries, Pablo Hidalgo tracks down the origin of a Luke Skywalker hand prop with palm damage that was originally attributed to The Empire Strikes Back.
On the Tumblr: The Phantom Menace goes Vogue
We’re still going strong over on Tumblr, though I have been very lax at mentioning it here. Here are few things that haven’t made the blog proper.
High fashion. Remember the Star Wars spread in the April 1999 issue of Vogue? It featured several of Queen Amidala’s costumes from The Phantom Menace.
Long reads. How obsessive fans built a better Han Solo blaster is strangely fascinating. Or maybe drop the ‘strangely.’
A Major Award. Of course there’s a Star Wars version of the lamp from A Christmas Story.. Of course.
It is the year of the GIF, after all. Who doesn’t love the floating head of Ewan McGregor?
Quick hits. Was that a dead Jaxxon on The Clone Wars? The Star Trek Into Darkness poster gets a Star Wars remix There are already Scoundrels costumes! And no roundup is complete without Star Wars infographics.
Video: Fan makes Jedi lightsaber training remote
Just the thing to round out a lightsaber collection. (via)
Video: Make a lightsaber, or just learn about ’em
I have to say this is the most informative ‘make-a-lightsaber’ video I’ve ever seen. Yay? (via)
Luke’s lightsaber goes for $240,000 at auction
Someone either made a very good or a very bad investment today… The A New Hope lightsaber in the Profiles in History action sold for $240,000, while Threepio’s helmet went for half that. That’s not quite as much as the last high-priced Star Wars item, but it does beat another (or the same?) ANH saber, which went for $170,000 in 2005. (via)
Luke’s saber, Indy’s fedora up for auction
It’s time for another Profiles in History auction! As always, they have plenty of neat movie props and memorabilia, and while it’s probably beyond most of our budgets, at least we can browse!
The Star Wars items start with Lot #345 and include Luke’s blue lightsaber, a piece of the Death Star, C-3PO’s hands and several Vader Project helmets! There’s plenty of Indiana Jones items as well, including a Temple of Doom fedora.
More adventures in Holiday Special archeology
The StarWars.com crew did some digging and unearthed several Holiday Special props and other detris – even an animatic reel of the cartoon. There’s also a handful of old articles – one on the art directors and concept art, kicking off with Ralph McQuarrie and an interview with Patty Maloney, who played Lumpawarrump, and Stan Winston on Wookiee makeup/costuming. And finally, learn to draw Chewie’s family.
Pricey props probably a safe investment
GalacticBinder has adjusted for inflation and lists the top ten most expensive Star Wars items ever sold at auction – mostly costumes and props, naturally.
Make the Mos Eisley beer run at 25 mph in the life-size, driveable landspeeder
Daniel Deutsch and friends created this fiberglass lifesize replica of Luke’s landspeeder from A New Hope. Just the thing to enjoy the last of summer! (via)
We could almost build our own ship for that!
The A New Hope TIE model netted £177,789 ($350,000!) in Profiles of History’s latest movie memorabilia auction. Wow…
