It’s been two weeks, and now Lupita Nyong’o tells Ellen DeGeneres that she has filmed for Episode VIII. Could this development also have something to do with Carrie Fisher having to pull out of some days at New York Comic Con?
NYCC: Next Marvel limited series goes back to the prequel era for Obi-Wan & Anakin
Obi-Wan & Anakin, a 5-issue limited series from writer Charles Soule (Lando) and artist Marco Checchetto (Shattered Empire) will debut in January, CBR reports. Here’s the official synopsis for #1:
“Before their military heroism in the Clone Wars, before their tragic battle on Mustafar, and many decades before their final confrontation on the Death Star… they were Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan learner, Anakin Skywalker. It’s been a few years since Obi-Wan pledged to train the young “chosen one,” but even as they have grown closer through training, it has been a difficult road. Now, called to a remote planet for assistance, Master and Padawan may be pushed to the breaking point. Writer Charles Soule (Lando, She-Hulk, Daredevil) and artist Marco Checchetto (Star Wars: Shattered Empire, Avengers World, Punisher) bring us a tale of the Jedi at the height of their power…”
Marvel has previously touched on the very end of the prequel era with the Rebels tie-in Kanan: The Last Padawan.
UPDATE: CBR has an interview with Soule about the mini-series.
Star Wars at New York Comic Con 2015
StarWars.com has their schedule for NYCC, including the Rebels screening, Hasbro, and a Journey to The Force Awakens panel.
Two episodes of Rebels S2 to premiere at NYCC
Rebels fan? Attending New York Comic Con? Then you’ll be happy to hear that Lucasfilm will be screening two episodes of the show there on Thursday, October 8. The Rebels panel, at 1:30 p.m. on the Empire Stage, will feature “special guests.” The special preview screening is in the same room at 5:30 p.m.
Both episodes feature Captain Rex, Captain Gregor and Commander Wolffe from The Clone Wars. Here’s the chatter:
As the second season of Star Wars Rebels opens, the crew of the Ghost is now considered a very real threat to the Empire and has caught the attention of Darth Vader himself. Undeterred, the rebels seek out old friends and add powerful allies to their cause, forming the beginnings of a more formidable alliance against the Empire. To stop them, Vader will dispatch new agents to hunt down their growing coalition, determined to snuff them out before they can ignite a galaxy to rebellion.
Still no word on a Disney XD premiere date, though.
NYCC 2014: New Rebels clip
Although fans at NYCC were treated to a whole episode, those of us playing along at home got this clip. Oh well!
Rebels at NYCC: Stormtroopers of the galaxy unite
Pablo’s Rebels panel isn’t until tomorrow afternoon, but Entertainment Weekly has some Soviet-style Imperial propaganda art to tide you over. Or there’s always this hint from @StarWars:

NYCC: New OT comic mini coming from Dark Horse, Rebels action figure packaging revealed

Somewhere in space: @StarWars warns of Imperials, posts original ’76 teaser trailer as rumors fly
The Empire has taken over our panel. DO NOT attend the #StarWarsRebels panel at #NYCC. Beware Imperial disinformation!
— Star Wars (@starwars) October 9, 2013
@StarWars again warned of ‘Imperial disinformation’ and posted the original ’76 teaser for Star Wars this afternoon, as fans continue to wait with bated breath to see if any Episode VII news is going to drop as rumored.
Meanwhile, Jedi News‘ Jedi Master SQL says we may see our first casting news on the 22nd, with announcements having been “held back” at Harrison Ford’s request, so he doesn’t get slammed with Star Wars questions as he’s doing press for Ender’s Game
Whatever really is happening behind the scenes, check out the ’76 teaser trailer below:
NYCC: Star Wars at New York Comic Con
This weekend is New York Comic Con, and Star Wars will be out in full force – even more than their presence at San Diego Comic-Con back in July. From October 10 – 13, the Javits Center in New York City will be wall-to-wall fandom, and topping it off for Star Wars fans will be Pablo Hidalgo’s panel on Rebels on Saturday at 2:45 pm. On Tuesday, @StarWars warned that there will be a giveaway item at the Rebels panel – some sort of Imperial propaganda.
Del Rey announced their lineup of authors doing signings at their Star Wars Books booth (and free book giveaways), with John Jackson Miller, Drew Karpyshyn, J. W. Rinzler, Ryder Windham, Jason Fry, and Chris Reiff making appearances.
Rooqoo Depot has a great listing of more Star Wars goings-on, including a list of the Star Wars panels (Anthony Daniels! Origami! Making of Return of the Jedi!), as well as booth signings for DK Books and Dark Horse Comics.
For those looking for exclusive merchandise, Hallmark has a Rancor ornament, Kotobukiya has an R2-Q5 ARTFX+ Statue, and Dark Horse has a NYCC sketch cover variant for The Star Wars #1. Her Universe will be selling at the official Reed Pop store.
Pablo Hidalgo giving Rebels presentation at NYCC
There’s one major media con left for the year: New York Comic Con. And Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo will be there for a presentation on the upcoming cartoon Rebels, StarWars.com announced today. The panel, subtitled ‘Might of the Empire,’ will be held Saturday, October 12 at 2:45 p.m. Here’s the description:
What happens when the Galactic Empire takes over a planet? What if Imperials took interest in your world, and garrisoned Stormtroopers and TIE fighters to maintain order? Star Wars Rebels, the thrilling, all-new animated television series from Lucasfilm for Disney XD will ask those questions — and so will this panel hosted by Lucasfilm’s resident Star Wars expert, Pablo Hidalgo.
Details on the show are closely guarded, but fans at NYCC will get a first look at new art from the series, and learn new information about the formidable forces of the Galactic Empire. Star Wars Rebels is set between Episodes III and IV, and it is a dark time in the galaxy. In the spirit of the original trilogy, the Empire is once again the preeminent villain of the saga, and Star Wars Rebels puts the awesome might of Imperial forces in the spotlight.
The series is still a year away, so don’t miss this chance to get an early look at its development.
We got our most extensive look (so far) at Rebels from Dave Filoni at Celebration Europe in July. It’s expected to begin airing next fall.
There will also be panels on The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi with J.W. Rinzler and Jason Fry, origami with Chris Alexander, “Blast-A-Trooper” with the 501st Legion and several licensees, including Del Rey and Dark Horse.
And before you ask…
… is it too early to clarify the #StarWarsRebels panel will be about #StarWarsRebels ? :)
