A compendium of Star Wars weirdness
Trendhunter Magazine has compiled a list of what they call 45 Creative Star Wars Innovations but is really just a list of cool random stuff they found on the internet. It’s a mix of official and fan-made things we’ve seen before and some we haven’t. Enjoy! (via)
Dream a dream of sleeping in Tauntaun guts
L.A. Weekly checks in with the progress of making ThinkGeek’s April Fools TaunTaun sleeping bag a reality. Thinkgeek PR guy Shane Peterman says:
We are definitely trying to make it in to an actual item to be sold on our site. As of right now, it’s still an “if,” but it’s turning in to more of a “when.” Things are looking pretty good, we just don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. There’s certainly been enough of a demand, both from customers and from those of us that work here. Right now, we’re aiming to have it available for the holidays, or at the latest, the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back next spring.
But what of Lucasfilm?
We’re still working with Lucas to get approval for a final design. Again, it’s looking good, we just can’t say too much right now since it’s still in the works.
Well, we’re patient.
Wacky merchandise: Tie Fighter Playhouse
“A wonderful soft play area that will really make you feel like you’re riding in a tie fighter!” Sure it will… If you live in the land of inadequate Photoshoppery. (via)
Wacky merchandise: Trash compacter bookends
I actually kind of like these. Not enough to justify dropping $190 on them, but enough to hold off a ‘rest of the garbage’ joke. (via)
New look for Star Wars Shop
The merchandising arm of StarWars.com got a new face today.
Mimobot Vader is unmasked, adorably
Decapping the latest Star Wars Mimobots reveals the faces of Vader and Rex – two Vaders! The Revenge of the Sith version is standard, but every one in six will have the older Return of the Jedi face. And there’s a San Deigo Comic Con exclusive that will have Luke, ala his Dagobah vision.
Do Good – Run! And buy!
We have charity things for both the Star Wars fans, Stargate fans, and sci-fi fans in general, today.
Kilometers 4 Katie – There will be another marathon in Storm Trooper armour. This one benefits the Make-A-Wish foundation. The goal is to raise enough to grant two wishes in memory of Katie Johnson; daughter of 501st founder Albin Johnson.
Michael Shanks Online Auction – It’s time, once again, for another auction benefitting the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Items have been donated from all over the sci-fi and TV world. It’s not just Stargate.
There was news today that says charity contributions are down. Please do all you can to help the organization of your choice.
Hallmark Star Wars 2009 reveals continue with exclusive and limited edition ornaments
TheForce.Net has word of some exclusive and limited edition Hallmark ornaments. (Scroll past the part where they meant to link to our original 2009 Hallmark post.) The first two are a Shock Trooper and Shadow Trooper two pack available only at Comic-Con. Greedo is the limited edition: You’ll have to head into your local store for the Keepsake Ornament Premiere Weekend on July 11th and 12th to nab him. Who shots first is entirely up to you.
Geek out your kid’s room… Or your own
Longing for some Star Wars bedding? Well, the stuff at Pottery Barn Kids is on sale, and I don’t think that Millennium Falcon quilt was around last time we featured it. In any case, it’s available in up to queen size. And did I mention the sale?
UPDATE: And now the sales (on the SW stuff) are gone. Poodoo.
