Classic X-wing and TIE Fighter games are re-released

X-Wing-TieFighter-KOTORAs previewed on Kotaku yesterday and officially announced on the Star Wars Facebook page, GOG.com now has three classic Star Wars PC games, ready for the current generation of computers. X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and Knights of the Old Republic are just $10 each.

With LucasArts’ X-Wing now 21 years old, it’s exciting to see this franchise come back around as these space simulator games were top notch back then, and probably still hold up well today. Most of my freshman year of college was enjoyed with this game, and sophomore year eaten up with TIE Fighter. Could this mean that the later space sims in the series, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance, be up for release as well?

As for Knights of the Old Republic, calling this a classic makes me feel old – but it has been 11 years since the game first came out, and it remains one of the best stories set in the galaxy far, far away.

Out this week: Legacy #14, third KOTOR omnibus

Legacy #14We’ve got two comics coming out Wednesday, or rather, one comic and one trade collection. Legacy #14 is the new issue, and the third Knights of the Old Republic omnibus is the trade. Remember, you’ll want to pick this omnibus up ASAP, as we have no idea how long it’ll remain in print once with Marvel taking over the comics license next year.

We have just under a month until our next upcoming book, Star Wars Storyboards: The Original Trilogy, on May 13.

Out this week: Knights of the Old Republic omnibus

kotoromComics are out on Tuesday this week due to the holiday, so stop by your local comic shop if you just can’t wait for the second Knights of the Old Republic (John Jackson Miller version) omnibus.

Coming in the new year will (no doubt) be plenty more comics, but our first novel release is Joe Schreiber’s Darth Maul: Lockdown on January 28. For more OT-centric fans, there’s the Han-centric Honor Among Thieves by James S. A. Corey in March.

Your weekend rumor: Is Knights of the Old Republic in the mix for a spin-off movie?

Darth Malak, I guess.Somewhere on the scale between ‘Ugh, no’ (Boba Fett/Yoda) and ‘Well… okay?’ (Han Solo) there exists AICN reporting a possible Knights of the Old Republic spin-off movie. Somewhere a gamer is screeching like a little girl, but I just roll my eyes. Don’t get too excited, though – “literally a ton of activity going on regarding a whole bunch of ideas,” the report also says.

Apparently there are also rumors going around Bioware about Drew Karpyshyn being involved. I thought he was working on some fantasy novels (and a screenplay that will need to be shopped around, which doesn’t exactly scream ‘part of a major franchise’ to me.) Whatever, rumor mill.

UPDATE: Let the record show…

Out this week: The Clone Wars S4, comic trades

It’s an expensive week – if you’re into cartoons or comics, anyway. As previously reported, the 4th season of The Clone Wars will be out on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday. You might also want to check for The Old Republic Encyclopedia, which actually came out last week.

As for comics, we’ve got three trade collections due in on Wednesday: Agent of the Empire: Iron Eclipse, Dark Times: Out of the Wilderness and Knights of the Old Republic: War.

You’ll also want to keep an eye out for Star Wars Insider #137.

EUbits: Delving into Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse, again

Fate of the Jedi. If you haven’t finished Apocalypse yet, don’t click any of the links in this section, because they are chock-full of spoilers! Over at Lightsaber Rattling, Pete Morrison takes a look at the state of the Expanded Universe post-Fate of the Jedi. (Always-relevant musical interlude: Where do we go from here?)

There are also some new reviews from The Galactic Drift, Fantasy & SciFi Lovin’, and The EU, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Also, if you’re in the mood for some snark, I live-tweeted my reading of the book, and then rambled at length about it on my Livejournal. My review, in brief: Meh.

Namesake corner A custom Clone Wars style Mara Jade action figure! I’ve made no secret of not being a fan of the style, but this is pretty nifty, I must admit. And she doesn’t look like Giada DeLaurentiis!

Author talk. Dan Wallace posts his endnotes for the Book of Sith.

Excerpts. A mini for Jeff Grubb’s Scourge. It’s our next new novel release, coming April in paperback.

Gaming. One of our readers, Annalee, has a good write-up at the Geek Feminism blog on issues in The Old Republic.

Comics. James gives a thumbs up to the twists in Agent of the Empire: Iron Eclipse #4, and Zayne digging himself in deep in Knights of the Old Republic: War #3.
