Check out the previews for Legacy #21 and Rebellion #12. Whedon fans may also enjoy a peek at Serenity: Better Days #1 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer #12.
Writer’s strike could be over by Wednesday!
Reaction to the proposed deal looks “very positive,” Nikki Finke reports.
Even if a vote to end the strike is reached within the next few says, pilot season still may be threatened. But that may mean Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse may be among the shows to profit, or at least be given a better chance to thrive from FOX.
Once more, with a ballet slipper
Not content to stick to just one medium, Joss Whedon is working on a ballet for Summer Glau, he told IESB. Currently on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Summer has used her dancing talents in Joss’ work twice: during an episode of Angel called Waiting in the Wings and for her fight scene in the movie Serenity.

Real live pro author writes Firefly fanfic
Stephen Brust has released My Own Kind of Freedom, an unauthorized Firefly novel, on his web site for download. (via)
I’ll be very interested to see what the fanfic community has to say about this… It’s nothing new for a pro writer to have written or be writing fanfic, but usually there’s a tad more remove.
Geekier than thou?
Thanks to the Stooge for this one – The Onion’s A.V. Club points out twenty pop-cultural obsessions even geekier than Monty Python. While Star Trek is #1, there’s not much about Star Wars, although there are plenty of entries about things that SW fans do and like, including BSG, Joss Whedon, roleplaying games. (namecheck!) Dr. Who… Plus something I had a lot of high school friends obsessing over for reasons I to this day do not understand, Magic: The Gathering. And for the final blow… Fanfic. Sigh. At least they acknowledge it “isn’t always relegated to weird, unnecessarily erotic original stories with awkward dialogue, plot holes, and spelling errors…” Yeah…
But man, game-show tape trading? That’s just crazy.
Seeing the hope and courage on their bright little faces, I swear I could just, I… I could just eat ’em up.
Some of the politically minded folks here may enjoy The GOP primary field in Buffy villains. For the other half, Whedonesque is casting the Democrats.
Slayers on strike
LAist (via Slacktivist) has photos from Mutant Enemy Day on the Writers Guild picket lines. Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy employees, actors from Whedon’s shows and fans from around the world turned up in L.A. on December 7 to show their support for the striking writers.
Meanwhile, the Writers Guild has denied requests for waivers from producers of the Golden Globes and Oscars.
The strike is in its seventh week with no end in sight.
Adam Baldwin and CA Browncoats auctioning off Jayne’s shirts
The California Browncoats and Adam Baldwin, who played Jayne Cobb on “Firefly” and “Serenity”, are auctioning off shirts worn by Adam Baldwin in the filming of the TV series and movie. There are 13 different shirts being auctioned, and proceeds from the sales of these screen-worn costumes will go to Adam’s charity of choice, the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.
This week, a shirt worn by Jayne Cobb near the end of the movie – On eBay.
Write swiftly and carry a big sign
When Whedon’s not busy out walking the picket line or blogging in support of the strike, he can be found promoting the latest Serenity graphic novel. Perhaps the upside of this strike will be that he’ll have more time for the new one he’s hoping to finish in 2008.
