Once you scroll past stories like ‘China Withdraws from Tibet, with Apologies,’ ‘Darfur peace process well underway,’ and ‘Big Three Unveil Emissions-Free Lineup’ on this Google News spoof, there’s also some good news for Serenity, Harry Potter, and Star Wars fans. In theory, anyway… For particularly lazy scrollers, a screencap of the Entertainment section is under the cut. (via) Continue reading “Google News from a better world”
Buffy comforts reporter in Iraq
NPR reporter Jamie Tarabay turned to Buffy the Vampire Slayer to help her cope during her tenure in Baghdad. Trust Yav. It’s definitely worth a listen.
“Shiny. Let’s be bad guys.”
Or good guys.
OK, Firefly fans, this is your last chance to buy the shirt off Jayne Cobb’s back. The California Browncoats are assisting Adam Baldwin in an auction to benefit the Marine Corps – Law Enforcement Foundation.
“Shepherd Book once said to me, ‘If you can’t do something smart, do something right.'” — Jayne Cobb
Another familiar face in the Dollhouse
Amy Acker, who was Fred on Angel, will be playing Dr. Claire Saunders in Joss Whedon’s new show, he revealed on Whedonesque.
Clone Wars Adventures, Red 5, Buffy all up for Eisner Awards
The Eisner Awards are the ‘Oscars’ of comic books, and several familiar names have shown up on the 208 nominee list: Chiefly, the Clone Wars Adventures, edited by Jeremy Barlow, has been nominated for for Best Publication for Kids. Another familiar nominee is Red 5’s Atomic Robo with two, Best Limited Series and Best Coloring. Meanwhile, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8 was nominated for for four awards, including Best New Series and Best Continuing Series. Joss Whedon and Brian K. Vaughan are both up for Best Writer.
Out of the Battlestar, into the Dollhouse
Well, we don’t have to worry about totally losing the pretty factor when Battlestar Galactica ends its run. Tahmoh Penikett (the very pretty Helo) has been cast in Joss Whedon’s new show Dollhouse.
Speaking of BSG, Edward James Olmos (Adama) wouldn’t mind terribly much if everyone dies off in the end. Not that we really know, at this point. The writers have regrouped in the wake of the strike.
Don’t forget that SciFi is airing two season kick-off specials, tonight. (Friday.)
Once more, with Paley
The long-anticipated PaleyFest Buffy Reunion came to pass. (My boss got to go, the evil woman. Did she take me along? Nooo…)
All sorts of coverage:
- Watch with Kristin gets some funny stuff from several cast members on the ticket craziness and where those characters are today.
- Who knew Buffy went both ways? (A funny exchange captured by MTV.)
- As the hosts, TV Guide got all sorts of fun stuff like videos, play-by-plays, love for Joss and the introduction to the event by Matt Roush. (Sorry. Lots of scrolling with TV Guide. They don’t so much believe in making things easily linkable.)
Ready for Dollhouse details?
Production details for Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse have emerged. Witness:
The drama, stars Dushku as Echo, a member of a group of men and women who are imprinted with different personalities for different assignments. In between tasks they are mind-wiped, living like children in Dollhouse, a futuristic dorm/lab. A group of people, known as “Actives” (or “Dolls”), have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas and hired out for particular jobs, crimes, fantasies and occasional good deeds. When not imprinted, the Actives live, childlike and unremembering, in a hidden facility nicknamed “The Dollhouse”. Although the Actives are ostensibly volunteers, the operation is highly illegal, and under constant threat from a determined federal agent on one end and an insane rogue Active on the other. The story hinges around a greater and more subtle threat: Echo, a female Active, begins, in her mind-wiped state, to become self-aware.
SpoilerTV also has the casting notices.
Poll: What would Joss Whedon do?
io9 asks Which sci-fi franchise would you like to see Joss Whedon take over? (Warning: Terrifying photo manip.) Tough choices all, but it looks like Star Wars is winning so far. (Though if NBC had really wanted to save Bionic Woman…)
It’s probably just a pipe dream, but I do hope that LFL would nab him for an episode or so of the live-action show.
Resisting the inevitable ‘leaf on the wind’ joke
New York Magazine’s Vulture blog counts down ten beloved characters who didn’t deserve to die. Wash’s Serenity is the only real genre character on the list, but Samuel L. Jackson’s hilarious end in Deep Blue Sea and Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction are also contenders.
With that in mind, what sudden character death (outside of Star Wars) still haunts you? (Seriously, if you post any Legacy of the Force spoilers in this thread, I will cut you. Okay, maybe not. Just delete them. But I’m sure there’s a sidebar poll in this about six months down the line.)
