Big-time Star Wars fans Stephen Colbert really wants Episode IX details from Keri Russell, but he doesn’t get much. She does talk about how her oldest kid reacted to her getting the role, and says she has “the coolest costume.”
Werner Herzog’s part in The Mandalorian is “small” and (probably) “a real villain”
Werner Herzog has much more important things going on that his “real small” Star Wars role – he’s actually promoting his documentary Meeting Gorbachev – but he does drop us a big hint about his character in the upcoming TV show The Mandalorian.
Now this is not a secret anymore, a small part, real small part, in “The Mandalorian,” the Star Wars sequel or whatever you call it. I like to do it because I know I’m good on screen, but only if I have to play a real villain.
So there you have it: Werner Herzog is likely playing a Star Wars villain, and he’s not particularly concerned with what place his project has in the franchise – as is his right, because he’s Werner Herzog and we’re all mostly still amused that he’s here at all.
The Mandalorian, which stars Pedro Pascal in the title role, will debut on the streaming service Disney+, probably later this year.
Oscar Isaac on finishing up Star Wars with John Boyega
In yet another interview, Oscar Isaac talks about how Episode IX was the most fun (again) but also does some heavy lifting for Finn/Poe (or Finn & Poe, however you care to read it):
I think the one thing I can say [about Star Wars: Episode IX] is that it has been the most fun for me, particularly working with John Boyega because we have just had so much more to do together and we just really connected in a great way. It was really a wonderful way to finish it for me because John was the first person I met right when I screen-tested. It was just with me and him. So it just felt like a real full-circle thing.
We do have some illicit evidence (by which I mean possible spoilers) that points towards their adventure.
Oscar Isaac on wrapping Star Wars with Anthony Daniels
Oscar Isaac, out promoting his new movie Triple Frontier, shares an Episode IX story with Jimmy Fallon about wrapping on the same day as Anthony Daniels.
Also in Triple Frontier? The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal. The two paired up for a Wired autocomplete interview:
Oscar Isaac: Episode IX “the most fun it’s been,” people will be “blown away”
The Associated Press caught up with Oscar Isaac at the premiere of his film Triple Frontier, and he talked a little about Episode IX.
“It was the most fun it’s been,” he said. “There was just an energy, a looseness, an excitement to the whole production. And knowing that this was the conclusion of not only our time there, but the nine stories, these nine episodes of the Skywalker saga, it’s incredible. I think people are just gonna be blown away.”
J.J. Abrams on Episode IX, Billy Dee Williams, and the art of the dodge
Entertainment Tonight’s Ash “Porg Queen” Crossan managed to snag a few moments with Episode IX director J.J. Abrams at the 14th Annual Oscar Wilde Awards on Thursday. Naturally, he’s low on specifics, but they are his first comments since wrap, so have at it:

Bob Iger talks a great deal about the development of Disney+ and the business in-and-outs of the service in an interview with Barron’s. For our purposes, the relevant bit here is that they’re not going to make a Star Wars movie for it:
Almost every movie the studio makes is a $100 million-plus movie, and we’re not looking to make movies at that level for the service. We’re looking to invest significantly in television series on a per-episode business, and we’re looking to make movies that are higher budget, but nothing like that. We wouldn’t make a Star Wars movie for this platform.
This is pretty much a
I guess we could have made the Star Wars series for ABC if we wanted. But the budget and what we’re spending on it and the nature of the material suggested it would be a perfect anchor for the new service. Because it’s a priority for the company, that needs to be reflected in the trafficking or the direction of where a lot of content goes. There have to be some subjective decisions made on where stuff goes because we have to feed this new beast.

He also says that the Galaxy’s Edge section at Disneyland will open in June, which is a bit more specific than the previous “summer.”
Poe returns in the next episode of Star Wars Resistance
The next episode of Star Wars Resistance, “Signal from Sector Six,” sees Kaz off the Colossus and back into space with Poe Dameron. Here’s the description:
When Poe and Kaz receive a distress call when out on a routine training exercise, they discover a damaged ship with strange lifeforms onboard…

More Solo cut scenes: Imperial Academy, snowball fight
