A number of notable fiction announcements came out of today’s Lucasfilm Publishing panel at New York Comic-Con: An author you’ll probably recognize has nabbed the next novelization, Timothy Zahn is writing a new trilogy that will feature Thrawn, and Marvel is indeed relaunching their main Star Wars title to pick up after ESB.

StarWars.com has formally introduced Babu Frik , the alien we saw briefly during the Force Friday preview livestream. The “tiny Anzellan droidsmith” works “among the Spice Runners of Kijimi and can reprogram or modify virtually any droid — regardless of the security measures protecting its systems.”

Empire’s Sunday feature was a new Kylo Ren photo from The Rise of Skywalker, and also the first we’ve heard from co-writer Chris Terrio.

Empire magazine has unleashed their November issue, which has The Rise of Skywalker as the cover story. So far, we’ve got a brand-new look at the Knights of Ren and a Rey-and-Kylo set of covers.

Today’s Force Friday preview livestream revealed a number of toys for The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian, and Jedi Fallen Order – and they’re over here if that’s your poison – but we also got a handful of hints, including two new characters.

Speaking of Force Friday, StarWars.com rolls in this morning with the news that a product launch livestream is coming Thursday. Here’s the teaser, featuring a few familiar faces:
Warwick Davis will host the live portions from Pinewood Studios in London, though I would be shocked if Galaxy’s Edge doesn’t make an appearance somehow.
The first wave of products for the three big launches coming later this year – The Mandalorian, The Rise of Skywalker, and video game Jedi: Fallen Order – will all be in stores October 4, but this will be our first (official) look at some of them.
Disney publicity onslaughts continue, but not for anything actually new (yet)
If you haven’t heard enough about Disney+ or Galaxy’s Edge, boy are you in for a treat… Anyone who didn’t sign up for the streaming service during D23 can get in on the action now. At least one commercial was aired during the Emmys last night (where Star Wars alum Phoebe Waller-Bridge and her show Fleabag took home 3 awards – comedy actress, directing, and best comedy series).
As for Galaxy’s Edge, it’s full court press time now that it’s open on both coasts (though the second ride is still months out) and it’s getting an ABC “takeover” and a two-hour primetime TV special on Freeform. (If you can stand the chipperness, there’s a sneak peek at EW.)
As for that other big event coming up in December – remember movies?!? – things are slowly progressing. A spot for The Rise of Skywalker (the new D23 footage, sans flashback intro) was shown during Sunday night’s NFL game, and there’s apparently a spot based on the first trailer in circulation as well. An Empire cover with Kylo Ren has been spotted, not to mention a ton of toy leaks I won’t even get into. With Force Friday coming on October 4 we don’t have long now… No matter how long it feels.
New Rise of Skywalker footage is finally here!
The Rise of Skywalker footage that debuted at D23 Expo this weekend has finally been released for the rest of us.

The Rise of Skywalker was first up at the movie panel at D23, and while it was a photo/video free affair, we didn’t have long to wait for an official shot of the cast:
And a new poster:
But there was a reel of some sort, and for those of us playing at home do have to wait until Monday, per EW. Here’s their description of the footage:
Images include a dual between Rey and Kylo Ren amid a stormy sea (hinted at on the poster). There’s a massive fleet of Star Destroyers. There’s a new shot of Darth Vader’s helmet. There’s also a shot of a hooded Rey revealing a new unfolding red double-sided lightsaber (Darth Rey?!).
We’ll “hear every theme” in John Williams’ Rise of Skywalker score
Percussionist Don Williams, the brother of Star Wars composer John Williams, has an update on The Rise of Skywalker score. He says John has “135 minutes worth of music to arrange” and that “every theme” will be heard, though “you gotta go look for them.”
If The Rise of Skywalker does come out to 135 minutes long – and I’ll let the music/composing experts debate that one – it means that at 150 minutes, The Last Jedi will remain the longest Star Wars film.
