Star Wars comic sales in February

How popular are they? Well, it looks like they do all right. Here’s their rankings from the Top 300 Comics list for last month.

Highest placed are Legacy #19 and Legacy #20 at #61 and #64: Both sold around 30,000 copies. Dark Times #9 came up at #92; Rebellion #11 is at #104 and Knights of the Old Republic #25 squeaked in at #299.

Meanwhile, three titles of interest make the list of top graphic novels for February – At #9, the first Indiana Jones Omnibus; at #23, the 30th Anniversary hardcover of Legacy; and at #57 the A New Hope photo comic. (I ask again: Why?)

Note that both lists includes only sales made through Diamond, which supplies comic stores, not book stores.

800 pages of Luke Skywalker comics?

Looks like the giant Dark Horse omnibus is Luke Skywalker, Last Hope for the Galaxy. According to the Amazon blurb:

Luke Skywalker’s greatest adventures from over 30 years of comics are compiled in a single slipcased hardcover! A deluxe edition worthy of the hero who saved the galaxy, this massive volume follows Luke Skywalker on his journey from the moisture farms of Tatooine to the final days of the Dark Empire! Each story painstakingly selected from every Luke Skywalker comic ever published-from Marvel’s first issue to Dark Horse’s latest-this masterpiece collection is the ultimate portrait of one of the most widely known and widely loved heroes of modern mythology!

…Only up to Dark Empire?

(Discovered by Eddie van der Heijden, who claims to have verified it with DH’s Randy Stradley.)

Dark Horse plotting “super-deluxe volume”

Look out: Dark Horse has something hefty in store for the holiday season. Literally hefty. So sayth Randy Stradley on their boards:

Start saving your money now, because we’re about to announce a $100, 800-page, super-deluxe volume in time for Christmas this year. It won’t be a limited edition, so there should be plenty to go around…

No, I’m not joking. For once.

What could it be? The most plausible speculation on TFN seems to be some sort of Clone Wars omnibus, to tie in with the TV series. But it looks like we won’t have to wait long to find out.

Is Vector starting with a whimper or a bang?

Dante Maddox of Crave reviews Knights of the Old Republic #25. Words of wisdom:

At no point have I ever looked at the expanded universe and thought, “What a mess!”

Clearly, a man who has never visited the TFN boards. More power to him: I’m not sure how many EU fans even realize how good we have it, even with the occasional gaffe.

As for Vector… I’ve never picked up KOTOR before, but I was not impressed by the issue. Maybe I’ll warm up to it as the story progresses (it took me about ten issues into Legacy to see it as anything more than fanboy wish-fulfillment) but for now, my verdict: Whimper. That’s not to say it might not pan out in the end, but for now, I remain skeptical.

Is anyone else jumping into KOTOR cold? Or, old-time readers… What do you think?
