Kathleen Kennedy to get an honorary Oscar

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will receive an honorary Oscar at the Motion Picture Academy’s 10th annual Governors Awards. Kennedy and her husband and producing partner, Frank Marshall, are being honored with Thalberg Award, given to producers “whose body of work reflect a consistently high quality of motion picture production.” Kennedy will be the first woman to receive the award, which was last given to Francis Ford Coppola in 2010.

Kennedy has been nominated for 8 Oscars, due to Best Picture nominations for E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Color Purple, The Sixth Sense, Seabiscuit, Munich, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, War Horse, and Lincoln.

Kennedy joined Lucasfilm in 2012 as George Lucas’ hand-picked successor.

Donald Glover’s Atlanta got writing, directing and lead acting nod for him, and the show is up for comedy series. He also got a guest actor nod for Saturday Night Live. Celebrating what we love: Lucasfilm expands fan awards

The fan film awards are back, but now it’s no longer just for fan films. The Star Wars Fan Awards now celebrate three categories of fan creativity – Videos, Photos, and Visual Art. There are multiple categories under each – video counts both short (15 seconds and under) and long (up to 5 minutes) in multiple categories, Photo also includes pet photography and food presentation, while Visual Art covers digital, 2-D, 3-D, custom costumes, and custom figures. In short, there are a lot of ways to participate.

Submissions open up at StarWarsFanAwards.com on July 18 and close September 17. Winners will be chosen by a Lucasfilm panel, with Audience Choice voting in November.
