Del Rey goes full audio for Dooku: Jedi Lost

Coming up from Del Rey is… An audio drama?

Dooku: Jedi Lost is written by Cavan Scott and will only be available in audio. Here’s the blurb:

Darth Tyranus. Count of Serenno. Leader of the Separatists. A red saber, unsheathed in the dark. But who was he, before he became the right hand of the Sith? As Dooku courts a new apprentice, the hidden truth of the Sith Lord’s past begins to come to light.

Dooku’s life began as one of privilege—born within the stony walls of his family’s estate, orbited by the Funeral Moon where the bones of his ancestors lie interred. But soon his Jedi abilities are recognized and he is taken from his home to be trained in the ways of the Force by the legendary Master Yoda.

As he hones his power, Dooku rises through the ranks, befriending fellow Jedi Sifo-Dyas and taking a padawan of his own, the promising Qui-Gon Jinn—and tries to forget the life that he once led. But he finds himself drawn by a strange fascination with the Jedi Master Lene Kostana, and the mission she undertakes for the Order: finding and studying ancient relics of the Sith, in preparation for the eventual return of the deadliest enemies the Jedi have ever faced.

Caught between the world of the Jedi, the ancient responsibilities of his lost home, and the alluring power of the relics, Dooku struggles to stay in the light—even as the darkness begins to fall.

Unlike an audiobook, which generally only has one narrator, this will feature a full cast, including Euan Morton, Orlagh Cassidy, January LaVoy, and Marc Thompson. The full cast list is available on the Random House listing.

Audio dramas are a popular format for Doctor Who, which regularly brings back actors from the show to reprise their characters in new adventures, but this is a Del Rey first for Star Wars. (Although the original trilogy radio dramas still get a lot of love.)

Dooku: Jedi Lost will drop on April 30 and can be pre-ordered now.

New blurb for Dark Disciple teases a Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos romance

dark-disciple-coverJedi Bibliothek spotted an extended blurb for Christie Golden’s Dark Disciple at Random House. The Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos story is based on unproduced scripts from The Clone Wars

The only way to bring down the dark side’s most dangerous warrior may be for Jedi and Sith to join forces.

In the war for control of the galaxy between the armies of the dark side and the Republic, former Jedi Master turned ruthless Sith Lord Count Dooku has grown ever more brutal in his tactics. Despite the powers of the Jedi and the military prowess of their clone army, the sheer number of fatalities is taking a terrible toll. And when Dooku orders the massacre of a flotilla of helpless refugees, the Jedi Council feels it has no choice but to take drastic action: targeting the man responsible for so many war atrocities, Count Dooku himself.

But the ever-elusive Dooku is dangerous prey for even the most skilled hunter. So the Council makes the bold decision to bring both sides of the Force’s power to bear—pairing brash Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos with infamous one-time Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress. Though Jedi distrust for the cunning killer who once served at Dooku’s side still runs deep, Ventress’s hatred for her former master runs deeper. She’s more than willing to lend her copious talents as a bounty hunter—and assassin—to Vos’s quest.

Together, Ventress and Vos are the best hope for eliminating Dooku—as long as the emerging feelings between them don’t compromise their mission. But Ventress is determined to have her retribution and at last let go of her dark Sith past. Balancing the complicated emotions she feels for Vos with the fury of her warrior’s spirit, she resolves to claim victory on all fronts—a vow that will be mercilessly tested by her deadly enemy . . . and her own doubt.

Well, that’s an unexpected turn for this book. (…Or is it?) Hopefully Golden’s take romance here is less winceworthy here than what we saw in Fate of the Jedi

Dark Disciple will be out in eBook and hardcover on July 7.

SDCC: Del Rey announces Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos novel by Christie Golden

delrey-asajj

Killing two birds with one stone, Del Rey has annouced a new novel starring Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos for next summer. Christie Golden is writing, but it’s based on unaired scripts from The Clone Wars S7, a storyline scripted with George Lucas. It will deal with some very “adult themes,” though probably not the sexy kind.

Meanwhile, comic fans, Pablo said that we can expect to hear from Marvel about their Star Wars plans at their Cup O’ Joe panel on Saturday (2:45 PDT/5:45 EDT.)

Dan Brooks once again live-blogged at StarWars.com, and TFN has audio. Head below the cut to see the tweets – some interesting things were said about the state of canon and the Legends label.

Star Wars Halloween costumes: Trick or treat?

SW Halloween Costumes from StarWarsShop.com

Back-to-School season is winding down, which means that on the retail calendar it’s time for Halloween! So of course StarWarsShop is selling costumes, including licensed sets of Vader and Stormtrooper armor that will set you back a thousand bucks. But most of them – including Jedi/Sith gear, kids stuff, and Plo Koon – sell for a more reasonable $40-75.

I do find it a tad amusing that Slave Leia and Geonosis Padme come from a line called ‘Secret Wishes.’ Presumably the baby oil is not included. For women who want to go a little more covered up, there’s also Asajj Ventress, plus Ahsoka for the younglings.
