Blogger Lindsay Smith at Other than airplanes has created a PDF that lets you make these cute stickers that will let you transform a disposable coffee cup into R2-D2.
Her Universe scores The Walking Dead license
Just in time for SDCC, Her Universe adds another franchise – They’re now making products based on AMC’s zombie drama The Walking Dead. It’s not a show I’m all that familiar with, but one thing’s for sure – that hoodie is killer. (There’s more, including a dress, at the link!)
The line isn’t online yet, but it will be available at at San Diego Comic-Con so we’ll no doubt be seeing it soon.
(Star Wars fans, there’s something new for us, too – An Artoo dress at Hot Topic!)
Nerdist kicks off webseries for Course of the Force
With less than two months to go for the second annual Course of the Force lightsaber relay prior to Comic Con in San Diego, Nerdist Industries has kicked off a multi-part webseries to help promote the relay that supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation In this first episode ‘Lightsaber’s Lost’, Matt Mira goes to Lucasfilm to pick up this year’s lightsaber, only to find that it has been stolen, and has to report in to Chris Hardwick. Also, R2-D2 quotes Office Space and dances like JT.
The 2013 Course of the Force relay will be headed from Skywalker Ranch all the way to San Diego from July 9 to July 16. Will Matt Mira retrieve the missing lightsaber in time? Is he really our only hope? (Hint: There is a another, if Wil Wheaton is available). New webisodes will appear every Tuesday from now until July 2.
In other Course of the Force news, all of the relay spots for the San Francisco and the Pacific Beach to San Diego legs of the relay have been filled, and they are now taking a waitlist for those two sections. Sponsor Otter Pops is giving away a free spot in the relay to someone willing to show their Otter Pop pride!
Choose wisely: It’s awesome overload in the CVI store
The merchandise selection for the show store is out, and there’s plenty of great stuff to chose from. We already knew about the Expanded Universe maquettes, above. (There’s a zombie stormtrooper one as well.) As for the rest, I’m guessing the Jar Jar whoopie cushion and retro-style bag will be big sellers… See them, and a few of my other picks, below.
And yes, there’s a ton more at the link – StarWars.com has a handful of high res pics – and the Han and Leia couple shirts are back as well.
Video: Jawas joyride in adorable student fan film
The graduating class of the Digital Animation and Visual Effects School created this in three months! The Clone Wars’ Yoda, Tom Kane, voices Threepio (via)
Video: The R2-D2 Dark Roast Edition
Not a bad way to wake up, though far too chipper for my tastes… But if you’re interested, here’s a how-to.
Video: Revenge of the Droids
Well, we already know Artoo is probably the smartest character in the franchise…
Ridiculous merchandise: Precious metal droids
Leave it to Japan… A company over there is producing gold and silver sculptures of Artoo and Threepio – actual gold and silver – for the 35th anniversary of Star Wars. According to Highsnobiety, they go for $1,800 and $6,000 USD, limited to 35 each, and will be available in May.
So, for $6,000 you can get a life-sized Darth Malgus… Or a gold Threepio? No idea how big these things are, but clearly there are way too many overly-solvent Star Wars fans out there, and Lucasfilm (or someone…) is fully committed to parting them from that money. Bless.
Wacky merchandise: Artoo can cooler
I feel quite safe in saying that Santa Maul would not approve of the R2-D2 Can Cooler. Bubba Fett, however, will love it. (via)
Wacky merchandise du jour: Artoo mints
Curiously geeky? British site Play.com is offering mints in containers shaped like R2-D2, Darth Vader, a stormtrooper and the Death Star. But, let’s face it: The Artoo is best.
