What all of fandom was predicting has finally come to pass: An R2-D2 mailbox has been stolen, along with all the mail inside it. (via starwars.)
Modesto gets Artoo mailboxes
George Lucas’ hometown finally gets R2-D2 mailboxes. Still haven’t visited your local droid? Looks like you have until May 25.
StarWars.com has a gallery of Artoo mailbox fan photos. And apparently there’s at least one in Detroit. Watch as locals bet how long until it’ll be until it’s vandalized! (We’re a grumpy bunch.) DC’s Metrobloggers are more optimistic.
Droidmail: How they did it
R2-D2! Where are you?
TFN points us towards an interactive Frappr map where you can mark your R2 mailbox finds. Don’t forget to put the streets, and a picture if you took one.
UPDATE: Droidmail in the news
The AP picked up the mailbox story, so there’s a chance you have or will see it in your local paper. And, of course, there are 501st involved.
UPDATE: From the 501st I find out StarWars.com added to their earlier news item a general list of the cities where one can expect to find the mailboxes. Troopers and other fans are on the lookout for exact locations – if you can’t find one on your own, checking with your local troop or Fanforce chapter is probably your best bet. And people are finding the boxes in unlisted cities, so don’t worry if your city isn’t there.
Artoo mailboxes debut tomorrow
The rumors are true, and USPSJediMaster.com is live, if not particularly robust at the moment. Luckily you can watch the video at StarWars.com. More will be revealed later in the month.
Artoo mailboxes lend credence to rumour
TFN finds visual proof of an impending Star Wars/Postal Service mashup: R2-D2 mailboxes. Holy Sith, are they adorable. They better make some little banks or something because I’m sure plenty of people would be willing to violate federal laws to get their hands on one of these babies.
