Disney+ goes live – at least for some of us – in the morning, and a new clip was dropped during Monday Night Football for the occasion.
Star Wars out this week: Marvel mop-ups
Three comics and two trade reprints are headed to the shelves this Wednesday, November 13. The issues are Star Wars #74, Jedi Fallen Order: Dark Temple #4 and Target: Vader #5. The reprints are Age of Resistance: Heroes and Star Wars Adventures: Pomp and Circumstance.
The Mandalorian, Dave Filoni, Obi-Wan’s Hossein Amini and more on Disney+ Star Wars
Dave Filoni gets a Vanity Fair profile, with plenty of quotes from various Star Wars luminaries: George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, Jon Favreau. “There isn’t a thing that we do in the storytelling space that I don’t check with Dave,” Kennedy said. “What I find about Dave is you don’t just sit down and have a discussion about plot or review characters inside the Star Wars world. You end up having meaningful, thoughtful discussions about what it is we’re trying to say inside the storytelling. He has a lot of empathy.”

Billie Lourd wrote a sweet/sad piece for Time on her mom, Carrie Fisher, and being the “keeper” of Princess Leia. Meanwhile, Carrie’s brother Todd is sharing details from the original version of the film.

Orka and Flix move to the forefront in ‘From Beneath,’ Sunday’s new episode of Star Wars Resistance.
Flix takes Kaz and crew to his home world to acquire fuel from his family’s refinery, only to discover the family’s drilling has awoken something monstrous.
More stills and a clip under the cut:

A brief one-time advertising opportunity on Disney+ for Starz is the price that Disney paid to get The Force Awakens from Starz, per The Verge. Which seems odd, given that TFA – which was one of the last Disney films on Starz under a pre-Netflix contract – hasn’t actually been airing on Starz is a while, but far be it from me to assume when the contract terms actually expire.
Meet Fennec Shand, Ming-Na Wen’s character in The Mandalorian
Reporter Anthony Breznican – now at Vanity Fair – is back with a new trailer for The Mandalorian, and our first look at Ming-Na Wen in the show. Her character, Fennec Shand, is a mercenary/stealth assassin whose ultimate allegiance “remains to be seen.”
Star Wars out this week: Resistance Reborn, Anthony Daniels memoir
Three books and one comic are coming this week. First up on Tuesday, November 5 is the Rebecca Roanhorse novel Resistance Reborn. (I reviewed it last week.) Also out is Anthony Daniels’ I Am C-3PO and Galaxy’s Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, November 6, our lone comic is Doctor Aphra #38.
New Rise of Skywalker stills, interviews
Thanks to the New York Times, we finally have a decent copy of one of the first stills from The Rise of Skywalker that was originally revealed at Celebration Chicago.
There’s also a new image of Finn from USA Today’s holiday movie preview. John Boyega says that he aimed for Finn to “to eventually find his place and to have a team that he’s fighting for” without losing his strong personality along the way. “I wanted to show him in a light that shows growth and more of an understanding of his world and of the people in it.”

Two articles claiming to know what’s behind the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Star Wars exit came out yesterday, both pinpointing different reasons.
The first, from Variety, says the pair wanted to tackle the origins of the Jedi – and ultimately disagreed with Lucasfilm on the direction that should take.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter leans on multiple commitments and the concept of “toxic fandom,” always a handy scapegoat.
I’m not sure I’d take either explanation at face value, particularly give all the padding in both articles about past issues and “concerns”, but overall, the idea of creative differences seems pretty likely – and probably for the best.
