Today’s highlight from the upcoming show is a plush Acklay created by Weirdbuglady: See the entire thing, and more plush creations, at her Flickr. Check out the Stitch Wars tag for more.
Star Trek’s Artoo location has been revealed….
And it’s kind of disappointing. Highlight for spoiler:
During the Drill Machine sequence as the Enterprise comes out of its barrel role amidst destruction of the other Federation ships above Vulcan, we cut to an interior Enterprise bridge over the shoulder of Kirk that is looking out through the front viewscreen. In space, R2-D2 is floating in the debris from about the top middle of the screen to the bottom right.

Eye Candy: An impressive Star Wars loft
Here’s one for all you collectors to envy – the Star Wars loft of Flickr user eyeSPIVE. He even has books!
Mimobot Vader is unmasked, adorably
Decapping the latest Star Wars Mimobots reveals the faces of Vader and Rex – two Vaders! The Revenge of the Sith version is standard, but every one in six will have the older Return of the Jedi face. And there’s a San Deigo Comic Con exclusive that will have Luke, ala his Dagobah vision.
Do Good – Run! And buy!
We have charity things for both the Star Wars fans, Stargate fans, and sci-fi fans in general, today.
Kilometers 4 Katie – There will be another marathon in Storm Trooper armour. This one benefits the Make-A-Wish foundation. The goal is to raise enough to grant two wishes in memory of Katie Johnson; daughter of 501st founder Albin Johnson.
Michael Shanks Online Auction – It’s time, once again, for another auction benefitting the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Items have been donated from all over the sci-fi and TV world. It’s not just Stargate.
There was news today that says charity contributions are down. Please do all you can to help the organization of your choice.
EUbits: That Blood Oath thing, a FOTJ short, Bohnhoff on rollercoasters, Invasion, TOR
Blood Oath in flux. The fan sites and forums are seeing some buzz about the strange vanishing of Elaine Cunningham’s whatever-happened-to-Zekk paperback from the various online catalogs and booksellers. (Last things we heard were a cover and a postponement.) It is rather mysterious, but I’m willing to wait this one out…
- Hyperspace/Fate of the Jedi: A Sithly short story by Christie Golden is part of the latest Fan Club Kit, as is a nice Adam Hughes poster from Dark Horse and a lot of Clone Wars stuff.
- The Blogside: Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff on How is a Star Wars Novel Like a Rollercoaster?
- Comics: Jo Chen walks us through the creation of the cover for Invasion #1.
- The Old Republic: Issue #8 of the Threat of Peace webcomic is up… Only one more to go in Act I.
Good news, everyone! Futurama is back!
So sayeth Ausiello, and he’s upped the ante to 26 glorious episodes! Free Slurm for everyone! (Head on over to antiformat.org to see the image in full glory.)
Speculation on live-action filming locations
TFN has rounded up all the hints and hopes in hopes of giving us some clues about filming locations for the live-action series. It’s starting to look like The Phantom Menace runup all over again… But at least we have better software this time around.
Star Wars in the news: Favreau, TOR, hockey, sciene, and the other George Lucas
Iron Man director Jon Favreau will be presenting George Lucas with the Gene Siskel Film Center Visionary Award for Innovation in Filmmaking this weekend… In addition to being handpicked by George for an interview. So the Chicago Tribune caught up with the younger filmmaker. (via)
- Elephant in the room: MTV asks The Old Republic team about sex in the GFFA – or rather, in their game.
- Sports. As a Metro Detroiter, I am so sick of the Stanley Cup brouhaha I can’t muster up anything clever for A Star Wars guide to the Stanley Cup Finals. Just please let it end tonight. (Yes, this technically should have gone in the fandom post. Sorry. The Stanley Cup, at least, is news. Trust me on that one.)
- Important questions: How far away is Star Wars gadgetry? Well, we have the Death Star… (Okay, okay, it’s just an article on the science exhibit.)
- No, the other one. If you’ve ever have the pleasure of Google Newsing ‘George Lucas’ on a regular basis, as I have not being doing all-too-infrequently lately, eventually you’ll run into the one who doesn’t run a media juggernaught. That other George Lucas has now been appointed the next Archbishop of Omaha, Nebraska. (via)
The fandom minute: Ewoks, Webbies, Vader, Death Star BBQ, Wedge (fake,) and lists
For the budding anthropologists in the room… McSweeny’s has Yub Jub Means “Devour the Weak:” An Authoritative Study of the Ewoks From the Field. (Also noteworthy, though not Star Wars: Selections from H.P. Lovecraft’s Brief Tenure as a Whitman’s Sample Copywriter.)
- Awards: Joshua Budich’s Star Wars collection site, which I blogged about way back in 2007, has won a Webby Award and was the People’s Voice pick in the 13th Annual Webby Awards.
- Art? Poke around to find a private moment with Vader among Ian Pool’s ‘Super’ series.
- Fanmade: Ladies and gents, the Death Star grill.
- At random: “Fake Wedge” from A New Hope is IGN’s Obscure Character of the Day. (via)
- Lists: SciFiNow has five storylines for the live-action show and their ten best Star Wars moments, while Topless Robot counts down the nine greatest fan films ever made.
