The Clone Wars review: ‘The Mandalorian Plot’

Yoda once told Luke Skywalker that you have to unlearn what you have learned. Certainly true in order to enjoy last week’s episode of The Clone Wars, ‘The Mandalore Plot’. Even knowing it was coming from Karen Traviss’ departure from the EU last summer, the modern history of the Mandalorian people took an abrupt revision. My first viewing of the episode left me focusing more on picking out what had been kept and tossed from previous continuity than on the actual story. Three genre movies up for Best Picture Oscar

It’s not a huge surprise that Avatar scored nine nominations – including Best Picture and a Best Director nod for James Cameron – but I can’t say I expected to see District 9 up there with it. Pixar’s Up (Fantasy? Sci-fi? You tell me.) also made the big time, the first animated movie since 1991’s Beauty and the Beast to be nominated for Best Picture.

Avatar and District 9 will also be taking on Star Trek for Visual Effects. Sorry, ILM. Trek might have a chance at Makeup: It’s up against Il Divo and The Young Victoria.

Randy Stradley teases Star Wars comic fans

Over at the Dark Horse message boards, editor Randy Stradley responded to a fan idea with a hint at what’s coming up in the future…

…I am so NOT opposed to the idea that I might mention that we have at least a couple new things in the works which focus specifically on a single main character — one of whom you may even have heard of before.
