Etsy scavenger: Custom Star Wars nail polish

Amanda Collier makes nerd-inspired custom-blended nail polish that she sells on Etsy in her Nerd Lacquer shop. They’re pretty heavy on the glitz and glitter – be sure to take a closer look at the Star Wars line (above,) A Glitter Far, Far Away.

My personal favorite, color-wise, is the Doctor Who collection, Mad Man with a Box. There are also collections inspired by Firefly, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Monty Python, Star Trek and more. The polishes go for $8 each, or in sets of three for $24.

New round of Star Wars fabrics spotted


There are reports of some new Star Wars fabrics being spotted in the wilds of Joann Fabrics and Crafts that haven’t made it online, yet. Kaithriona reports in the Geekcraft LiveJournal that they’re 100% flannel.

There are three designs, including a large design Clone Wars pattern, a large design classic trilogy pattern and a small repeating Star Wars logo with Imperial symbol.

It’s always exciting to get new fabrics; although it’s a shame that they don’t seem to be coordinating them very well with past releases. But at least there’s something new to play with.

Star Trek: The Next Generation being remastered for Blu-Ray

Entertainment Weekly got the exclusive side-by-side comparison video on the upcoming transfer of Star Trek: The Next Generation to high definition. Remember how poor the show, especially the first season, appears now in re-runs? Well, the show is being cleaned up for a Blu-ray release later this year, for the 25th anniversary of the show, with the original film being recut and remastered for HD – no more videotape quality.

Before the full show’s Blu-ray release, CBS Home Video will be teasing fans with the early Blu-ray release pack , The Next Generation – The Next Level, which will contain three favorite episodes: the show’s two-hour premiere, ‘Encounter at Farpoint’, season three’s ‘Sins of the Father’ and season five’s ‘The Inner Light’. EUbits: Zahn talks Han Solo, Chiss, and short stories

Zahn says… On his Facebook page, Tim Zahn narrows the timeline of his upcoming Han Solo novel from OT era to “around the time of” A New Hope, brainstorms a theory on why Chiss are hanging around The Old Republic, and reveals possible topics for the short stories that would have gone with the probably-not-happening annotated editions of Dark Force Rising and The Last Command. (Two of these originally brought to my attention by Roqoo Depot, since I haven’t been paying as much attention to Facebook as I should.)

Excerpts. With James Luceno’s Darth Plagueis coming out on Tuesday, the machine was in full swing this week, with a mini-excerpt on Facebook, two pages on Entertainment Weekly and the first 50 pages on Suvudu. Is there anything in the book that hasn’t been released as a tease at this point?

Well, this is disturbing. If you’re a Sith in The Old Republic, you get your own Twi’lek slave to torture. Yeeeeah, no thanks.

Short stories. Eric Geller daydreams up some short story anthologies. (Remember anthologies? We haven’t seen one since ’99. They didn’t sell at that well, apparently.)

Chat. Dark Horse and John Jackson Miller will have a Twitter chat on Tuesday for the occasion of Knights of the Old Republic: War #1, which will apparently be coming out on Wednesday. You’ll want to keep an eye on the hashtag #KOTORWarChat.

The Clone Wars is back with ‘Escape from Kadavo’

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is back with a new episode to start off the year, finishing up the Slaves of Zygerria arc with ‘Escape from Kadavo’. Anakin Skywalker tries to convince the Queen of Zygerria that she, too, serves a master – Count Dooku, while an enslaved Obi-wan Kenobi has to behave in order to protect the Togruta slaves on Kadavo. Allston to be Author Guest of Honor at Origins
