Etsy scavenger: Get your Star Wars dress-up on

Celebration VI is almost 5 weeks away now, and you’ve probably been thinking about it for a while. Still, after watching the chaos of SDCC, it’s hard not to get inspired to up your wardrobe game from mere t-shirts… And for those of us who use sewing machines more as bedside tables than as actual tools, that means heading to Etsy. First up, above, are some great dresses.

Cocktail Hour on The Death Star by Nerd Alert Designs is a Mad Men fabulous 60’s-styled dress in a Darth Vader fabric. It’s available in sizes extra small to extra large and, as a custom order, can take up to three weeks to ship. (There’s also an Ewok/Wookiee dress and a romper in the Vader fabric.) $90.

Go a little more modern with the Star Wars Dress in Blue and White by Tea Time Inc.. This isn’t my favorite of the new fabrics, but it does look fabulous in this cut and I kind of want one. There’s another medium in the shop, but can be ordered custom as well. They also have a Millennium Falcon skirt. $120.

Take things down a notch with this upcycled red and houndstooth Star Wars dress by repurposefulPUNK. Our most casual (and affordable!) option today, it’s made from an old tee and available in sizes extra-small to 2X. (She has a similar dress in >brown and plaid.) Only $64!

We return to more classic lines with the Star Wars Pin Up Apron Cut Dress by BongaChopShop. This is one of the kind and made with vintage fabric – check the listing for measurements! It’s fully lined with pockets, piping trim and adjustable straps. (She also has a high-waisted skirt and corset!) $150.

The Chapter One dress by Cha Designs also features vintage fabric and classic lines. It’s a size 4 and will cost you $185.00.

If you do have a time crunch and absolutely must have something you find on Etsy for Celebration, please be sure to check with the seller to see if the item can be shipped in time!

Monday: Accessories! Yes, even some for you, dudes

Celebration VI roundup: Speed dating and Warwick Davis are back. (But not together.)

It’s baaack… Speed-dating returns to Celebration VI. There will be six sessions – one on Thursday, two on Friday, and three on Saturday. Apparently it resulted in 38 couples and at least one marriage at Celebration V, so who knows?

Guests. There hasn’t been an announcement yet, but Jedi News noticed a new name at the con’s autograph ticket site: Warwick Davis.

Contest. Getting ready for Celebration already? There’s a fan video contest. Protip: Blogging and photoshopping stuff is super boring.

EUbits: End of the road for Knight Errant, Blood Ties and Lost Tribe comics, but two more in the works

Comics Randy Stradley lists what’s up with Dark Horse’s Star Wars comics – Including the news that Knight Errant, Blood Ties and Lost Tribe of the Sith are all “ending after current arc.” There are at least two mystery comics to be revealed in addition to the Brian Wood Star Wars: One ongoing, one eight-issue mini series. Short stories. Tim Zahn has two Star Wars stories coming up later this year. The first, for the Insider, is about Bink and Tavia, two of the new characters in Scoundrels’. The second, a novelette also set pre-Scoundrels, will “be published as a small ebook” in December. Something Lost Tribeesque to promote the book, perhaps?

The blogside, pro edition. Keeper of the Holocron Leland Chee made his debut on the new Star Wars blog today. Meanwhile, new dude Tim Lebbon writes briefly on joining the Star Wars team.

Interviews. At Comic-Con, Matt Staggs chatted with Troy Denning while James talked to Tom Taylor about Blood Ties, Darth Maul: Death Sentence, the lack of Invasion, and more.

Endnotes. Jason Fry wraps up his series on The Essential Guide to Warfare with part 16 and the Legacy era.

‘Aggressive negotiations’ in new Mercy Kill excerpt

It’s Thursday, and the means it’s time for the fifth mini-excerpt from Aaron Allston’s Mercy Kill.

The trooper caught up with Myri after three steps, seized her arm, and swung her around to slam her into the side of a building. She couldn’t see his features in the deep shadow, but his voice was suddenly full of anger. He jabbed a forefinger at her. “You do not insult the—”

She put one hand on the back of his and seized his index finger with her other hand. She bent his finger up, a sudden, all-out effort, and bones snapped.

He started to look at his stricken hand, started to make a pained noise, but she immediately drew her blaster, thumbed its side switch to make sure it was still set on stun, and fired into his stomach. The stun bolt briefly illuminated the alley and his shocked expression. Then he fell.

She looked down at him and holstered her weapon. “Sorry, Army. My heart belongs to Starfighter Command.” Then she stepped over him and returned to the street.

Mercy Kill will be out in August.

Game of Thrones, Dinklage get Emmy noms again

The Emmy nominations are out this morning, and yet again, there’s little love for any genre TV that’s not on HBO. Game of Thrones is up for 2 major awards: Repeat nominations for Peter Dinklage (who won Supporting Actor in a Drama Series last year, though shouldn’t he be Lead for this season?) and Outstanding Drama.

There’s also American Horror Story, which is tied with Mad Men for the most overall nominations. Fandom-favorites Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia also got nods.

SDCC video: Star Wars merchandise

Before we put the Comic Con files in the archives, I’ve got a few more videos to show from San Diego this past weekend. First up is a tour of some of the different licensees in the Lucasfilm area. We’ve already gotten a tour of the Her Universe booth with Ashley Eckstein, but now let’s take a look at:

  • Chairs and beanbags from Red5inc
  • Star Wars novels and guidebooks from Del Rey
  • Anovos Productions‘ costumes and props (Wait! those aren’t Star Wars!)
  • Purses, belts and other accessories from Rock Rebel
  • Museum Replicas’ line of customizable Jedi outfits, Star Wars logo lamps and lightsaber umbrellas
