Who needs a theme park? Galaxy’s Edge has a full-fledged publishing program

Yes, there’s even more Galaxy’s Edge content coming, because we live in a world where even tie-in theme parks have fiction tie-ins, and I give up. This is how we live now.

In addition to the already-announced comic, there’s Black Spire from Del Rey, a sequel-trilogy era novel by Phasma author Delilah S. Dawson.

In this novel, a prequel to the Disney Parks experience, General Leia Organa dispatches her top spy to Batuu in a desperate search for Resistance allies.

Some are theorizing that said spy could be Phasma’s Vi Moradi, and Dawson did retweet this, so perhaps…

(She’s also working on a storybook called The Skywalker Saga with artist Brian Rood. And she did a thread on writing for brands like Star Wars.)

Back to Galaxy’s Edge, there’s also A Crash of Fate, a young adult novel by Zoraida Córdova, and middle reader Star Wars: Myths & Fables by George Mann with illustrations by Grant Griffin. That one only features two Batuu stories, and there’s an excerpt of the Tatooine-set story “The Knight & the Dragon” at the link.

Anther comic (this time from IDW) and a cookbook are also in the works. A Crash of Fate and Myths & Fables drop August 6, while Black Spire is out September 3.

The First Order comes down on the Colossus in the next Resistance

In ‘The First Order Occupation’, Sunday’s new episode of Star Wars Resistance, the First Order arrives at the Colossus to hunt down Synara after her actions last week. And it looks like Kaz might discover her secret as well.

After Torra’s kidnapping and subsequent rescue by Major Vonreg, the First Order sends a contingent of stormtroopers to the Colossus in order to hunt down the pirate spy.

Another familiar droid coming to The Mandalorian?

Oscar Isaac might dad it up in the new Dune

Oscar Isaac may be headed to another space opera – Denis Villeneuve’s new adaptation of Dune. Variety reports that he’s entered early negotiations to play Duke Leto Atreides, father of protagonist Paul Atreides, who’s being played by Timothee Chalamet. Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, and Charlotte Rampling are also among the cast.

This will be the third major adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel. David Lynch made the first movie in 1984, while the then-Sci-Fi Channel made it into a 2000 miniseries. (They also adapted sequels Dune Messiah and Children of Dune in a second miniseries in 2003.)

Another familiar Star Wars name, author Kevin J. Anderson, is serving as creative consultant on the film. He wrote several Dune novels with Brian Herbert.

Anthony Daniels wraps on Episode IX (and other updates)

→ Anthony Daniels (and thus, Threepio) has wrapped filming on Episode IX. “…We’re so proud to have worked with such a lovely, talented cast & crew lead by J.J. & Kathy,” he tweeted this afternoon. “I’ll miss everyone but I’m glad to know that we’ve been making something exceptional together, to share with the waiting world.

→ We haven’t heard from many other cast members since John Boyega’s big hint, but we do know that Adam Driver was filming when the Oscar nominations were announced, per Spike Lee. (Here’s Driver himself on his nom.) He’s at Sundance now for The Report, where he’s perfecting his Star Wars dodges.

→ The other supporting nominee who happens to be in Star Wars, Richard E. Grant, has his own reaction in the NYT. He actually talks about IX – and his nomination – with Radio Times.

→ No matter how much wishful thinking is knocking around the internet, there won’t be anything from Episode IX at the Super Bowl. Like Solo last year, Disney’s likely contenders for a big game spot are all spring/summer releases. More at Deadline.

→ That said, I still expect that our next major drop will be the title.

Loyalty tested in Resistance’s ‘The Doza Dilemma’

Synara has a choice to make in Sunday’s new episode of Star Wars Resistance, ‘The Doza Dilemma.’

As Synara settles into life on the Platform, she is contacted by her pirate compatriots for a new mission. She is thrown into a tight spot when she learns that the object of the mission is her new friend – the Captain’s daughter, Torra Doza.

‘The Doza Dilemma’ will be available Sunday, January 27 on the DisneyNOW app and Disney Channel VOD at 12:01 a.m. PT, or airs on the Disney Channel at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Joonas Suotamo, Sam Witwer, Greg Grunberg and more join the Celebration guest list

The second round of guests for Star Wars Celebration Chicago includes Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca 2.0), Sam Witwer (the voice of Darth Maul since The Clone Wars) and Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley in The Force Awakens).

They’re joined by Greg Proops (voice of TPM’s Fode, Resistance’s Jak Sivrak and Garma), puppeteer Dave Chapman, Paul Kasey (Admiral Raddus in Rogue One, Ello Asty in TFA), Orli Shoshan (Shaak Ti) and Ian McElhinney (General Dodonna in Rogue One).

They’ve also revealed the event’s poster, which is a bit… Crowded. Check it out under the cut.

Solo gets VFX Oscar nod

Oscar nominations came out this morning, and Solo got a nod for Best Visual Effects. Congrats to ILM’s Rob Bredow, Patrick Tubach, Neal Scanlan and Dominic Tuohy and the rest of the crew. It’s up against Avengers: Infinity War, First Man, Ready Player One and Christopher Robin.

We’ve also got a Golden Globes repeat in the Supporting Actor Race, with Adam Driver (for BlackkKlansman) and Richard E. Grant (for Can You Ever Forgive Me?) going up against each other, as well as Mahershala Ali (who won the Golden Globe,) Sam Elliott and Sam Rockwell.

It’s another record-breaker for Marvel, as Black Panther comes out with seven nominations, including Best Picture. It’s the first superhero movie, period, to be a Best Picture nominee. Ludwig Goransson, who will score The Mandalorian, is up for the film’s score.
