Work it out, you’ve got to move your soul: Best #StarWars, #SWCA and #SWEU tweets for March 26 – April 7

@swankmotron: Lapti Nek or Jedi Rocks? It doesn't matter. The point is that Jabba has terrible taste in music. Mission: Accomplished on both counts.

So we finally got the digital release news that’s been teased for months, and promptly the usual tedious ‘discussions’ of Special Editions vs. ‘originals’ broke out and let me tell you, as much as I would buy nice spiffy HD copies of the VHS/THX versions I grew up on, my patience with that shit is nil. Still, Bryan made me laugh, so four for you, Bryan.

Onward, to adulthood. Okay, not really. Continue reading “Work it out, you’ve got to move your soul: Best #StarWars, #SWCA and #SWEU tweets for March 26 – April 7”

Star Wars movies are coming to Digital HD Friday

Lucasfilm broke the news we were expecting with a commercial during tonight’s big college basketball game: All six of the existing films will be available “globally” in Digital HD this Friday, April 10.

Vendors being name-dropped in the media include iTunes, Google Play, VUDU, Amazon, Xbox Video, and the Playstation Store.

Yes, the original trilogy will be the most recent Blu-ray editions, because if they ever do release pre-SE versions, they will not play coy about it.

Rumors: A description of The Force Awakens’ Celebration trailer? Or two?

sw-xwing327Earlier today, we got a brief rundown of what may be new trailer for The Force Awakens from Making Star Wars.

Star Wars Underworld also has a trailer report, with a few different details. (MSW has a few things to add to that.) It does involve something that could be familiar to EU fans… (No, not Mara.)

The two descriptions could possibly overlap in spots, as MSW doesn’t get super detailed. (Never forget that rumors can be like a game of telephone, as they often come to us filtered through several different people, each with different interpretations and foci.)

There is a third description that’s floating around, but it’s the same one several spoiler folks dismissed when it first showed up a month ago so I wouldn’t put too much faith in that.

In any case, hopefully we learn the truth next week… And maybe put to bed at least a few of the more pervasive rumors. (Ha.)

More signs of a Star Wars digital release… For next week?

vudu-bundle

On April Fool’s Day, Yakface was sent a photo of a poster at Walmart teasing an April 10 release of the Star Wars movies in digital on the store’s Vudu service. We weren’t sure if it was a joke or not, but April 1 has come and go and now a Star Wars bundle is listed on Vudu.com. It not only includes the six movies so far, but also a number of extras.

With ‘commemorative’ action figure sets (still sans Leia) already on sale, we have little reason to believe this isn’t going to happen – and I doubt Vudu will be the only player in the mix. They just happened to be the ones who’ve let the cat (or, well, the date) out of the bag. Expect to see similar bundles on Netflix, iTunes, Disney’s own services and more.

April 10 is next Friday, so I’d expect a formal announcement Thursday at the very latest… And why would they want to make a big splash to get Star Wars in people’s minds the weekend before Celebration, I wonder?

Today’s talker: How slavish devotion to continuity can damage a series (and a fandom.) Continuity is important (and Club Jaders were big advocates for more of it back in the early days of the Expanded Universe) but when it outweighs and hinders the story and characters, it can become a problem. That’s something we saw in the waning days of the old EU. The solution? It’s somewhere in the middle.
