Ewan McGregor, FREE AT LAST to talk about returning as Obi-Wan, has dropped a few things about the upcoming Disney+ series over at Men’s Journal, where he’s their latest cover star.
First of all, he’s been keeping this secret for four years – not a huge surprise, given the evergreen Obi-wan rumors. Here’s a little bit about where he expects the character’s head to be at:
“The storyline sits between Episode III and Episode IV,” he says, dropping us a breadcrumb. The last time we saw him in the role, “the Jedi Order was falling apart. It will be interesting to take a character we know in a way and show him—Well, his arc will be quite interesting, I think, dealing with that the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode III. It’s quite something to get over.”
He also said that filming begins next summer and it will be six hour-long episodes. When we can expect to see it is still unclear, but Lucasfilm has already announced that Hossein Amini is writing the series, with Deborah Chow directing.
Disney+ itself is launching in a matter of weeks, with most of the Star Wars movies and the first Star Wars live-action TV show, The Mandalorian.
McGregor’s Doctor Sleep, where he plays grown-up Danny Torrance from The Shining, is in theaters, is in theaters November 8.
