EW celebrates 100 episodes of The Clone Wars with exclusive video

Starting off 2013 this Saturday is the one hundredth episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Entertainment Weekly celebrates this milestone with a cool video highlighting the past four and a half seasons and gives a few sneak peeks at the remainder of season five.

While the video doesn’t seem to show much for the next episode (‘Missing in Action’) in the current story arc (the adventures of Artoo and the rest of D-Squad), we do see at the end some scenes of Ahsoka in action… and on the run with Yoda referring to her as a ‘lost child’. The video overall is action heavy, focusing on some of the major storylines from the show’s run. We see Cad Bane and Satine, Asajj Ventress and Savage Opress, the visions from Mortis and Anakin’s path separate from the rest of the Jedi, and the return of Darth Maul. We even get a little bit of Hondo Ohnaka, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, and Pre Viszla, and a lot focusing on Obi-Wan, Anakin, Ahsoka, and the clones.

You know who is almost absent in this montage? Padmé Amidala. Quinlan Vos, Steela Gerrera, the Zillo Beast, and the younglings from earlier this season all make small appearances, but the senator from Naboo is not seen at all, despite references from Palpatine that Anakin’s feelings are what make him special. And Ahsoka even gets a scene with her someone special, Lux Bonteri, and much screen time is given to Obi-Wan Kenobi about Duchess Satine. My guess is that Padmé, who has been mostly absent this season so far, will continue to be sidelined for the rest of the season while the focus will be more on Ahsoka’s destiny – and probably also Satine’s fate. It’s not like we don’t know Padmé’s eventual fate, and perhaps her absence might mean that we are nearing the end of the war, and we’re not going to see her pregnant on the show, since Anakin’s unaware of it until the opening act of ROTS.

A very long drop?

Getting back to Ahsoka, they did neatly stack down much of her own key history into the clip show – most fans have assumed that her eventual fate lies along whether she survives Order 66 or not, the real key is why she ends up not being present in the first half of Episode III – while it can be assumed that she is simply on a mission elsewhere, we see some hints here that she may just go rogue or wild. And treading in that direction will be some interesting ground to cover (and as the show wraps up, the treatment of Anakin and the clones as good guys of the show turning into their less than good guy roles of Revenge of the Sith will similarly be worth watching).

And back to ‘Missing in Action’: the article points out that we’ll meet Gregor, the amnesiac clone commando, when the droids get back to completing their mission on Saturday morning.
