The Prince of Wales did the deed Friday at Buckingham Palace. Lee’s service to the genre extends far back his recent resurgence in Attack of the Clones and the Lord of the Rings trilogy – he’s appeared in 267 films, most notably the title role in Hammer Films’ Dracula (with Peter Cushing as Van Helsing,) The Wicker Man, and The Man with the Golden Gun. My generation’s introduction to him was probably as a voice in 1982’s animated The Last Unicorn. (It took me more than a year to figure out why Dooku/Saruman sounded so familiar…)

Congratulations to Sir Christopher! A long overdue honor, given his service to the country even outside of entertainment.
Is it weird that I first saw The Last Unicorn as an adult? My intro to Sir Lee (who nobody doesn’t like) was Gremlins 2, in which he played a mad scientist. Great casting, great movie.
Maybe TLU was more of a girl thing. I was obsessed with it.
i saw the last unicorn in the theater… at a 2-screen cinema that is now a 99 cent store. from what i remember, it was rather dark for an animated film at that time. definitely not disney fare.
Oh, that is made of awesome. I’m so glad. Many congratulations to Sir Christopher Lee!
This is indeed fantastic, and congratulations to Sir Lee. But I must say — seeing that photo, I can’t help but think of a certain scene set on the Invisible Hand’s observation deck… hahaha…
