(Warning: Trailer a bit NSFW.) Wow. Clearly there’s a very good reason I’ve managed to miss hearing about this for a while… It kinda looks like crap. Sorry, but if I want not-for-kids juvenile humor, I’ll go with The Venture Brothers reruns… At least they’re mildly less breast-obsessed. (via)
Gate Geek – Stargate Universe Casting Call
Good news! They’re casting Stargate Universe. (Well, it’s presumed to be a true casting call sheet. Still not confirmed.)
Apparently they’re only looking for one “star name” for the upcoming series Stargate Universe. The rest is open for hot, good-lookin’ people who might reasonably be able to convince folks that they’re very smart.
Dust off those head shots, boys and girls. You too might be the next big draw at a sci-fi convention!
No Emmys for Star Wars spoofs, Carrie Fisher
Neither Robot Chicken: Star Wars or Family Guy: Blue Harvest picked up Creative Arts Emmys yesterday, losing out to The Simpsons and South Park, respectively. And Carrie Fisher, who was up for her 30 Rock guest spot, lost out to some chick from Desperate Housewives. On the whole, it wasn’t a great night for genre, but Battlestar Galactica did pick up Special Visual Effects for a series.
The fandom minute: Tina Fey’s endorsement, bento boxes, Yoda’s a (badass) geek
- TV: Tina Fey was spotted wearing a Leia ’08 t-shirt on Saturday Night Live’s season premiere this weekend. On that note, io9’s list of SNL’s best sci-fi sketches contains bonus Mark Hamill.
- Food: Star Wars bento boxes? Wacky!
- List: Yoda (though not in cake form) is one of Great White Snark’s top five unexpectedly bad-ass geek heroes.
Gate Geek – Atlantis protest and movie confirmation
It may have been a small protest in front of The Bridge Studios, but it had heart. (Although figure it out, folks. The current producers want to keep the show going. You should be complaining to MGM and SciFi about this.) In producer Joe Mallozzi’s blog, he commented on how spirited they were.
The protesters, however, are organizing a rally in Los Angeles in front of MGM. There ya go….
In the same blog entry, Joe Mallozzi also confirmed that the promised SGA movie is already on track with a script to be finished by year’s end. Yippee!
Over in GateWorld land, there are new interviews with Chuck “Chucknician” Campbell and David Nykl.
Gate Geek – The Fans Rally
The anger over the cancellation of Stargate Atlantis continues with a rally planned in front of The Bridge Studios (where SGA is filmed) on Friday, September 12th. They’re hoping to get enough media attention to shame MGM into realizing they’ve made a mistake. In addition, it would show the cast and crew (on their last day of filming at the studios) how much they’re loved and appreciated.
If you’re up for some amusement and happen to be in Burnaby, drop on by!
In other missed Gate news while I was out and about in the world:
- The cast and crew are also bummed about the cancellation as evidenced by this article and this video.
- Congrats go out to Atlantis for picking up 4 Gemini nominations.
Much frakking frak about ‘frak’
The Associated Press – and everyone else – have discovered Battlestar Galactica’s favorite curse word.
Gate Geek – All sorts of newsy stuff
Okay. The grieving process continues in Stargate fandom. The Save Atlantis sites proliferate and are about to merge into one. There’s talk of lemons and monkeys. (Huh?)
We’re starting to get reaction on the cancellation from David Hewlett, David Nykl and Chuck “Chucknician” Campbell. But story ideas are already brewing for the impending movie. So there’s still things to look forward to.
And we continue to enjoy this season after last week’s amazing episode The Shrine. Director Andy Mikita gives the official site some background on the episode. Rachel Luttrell talks about incorporating her pregnancy into the show ahead of the upcoming premiere of Season 5 in Canada.
In the meantime, we have the official announcement and basic premise for the new series Stargate Universe which will arrive in the summer of 2009.
TV Round-Up – It’s that most wonderful time of the year
Ah, don’t you just love the smell of a new TV season?
There be some spoilery (yet oh, so intriguing) tidbits on Watch with Kristin‘s weekly spoiler chat about returning shows Heroes Smallville and Supernatural.
Speaking of Heroes, TV Guide is also offering up a bit of a sneak peek into the sexy of Season 3. (Hey, if we can get more shirtless Mohinder? I am all for it.)
As for the new shows, JJ Abrams talks to them about Fringe and a little film he’s doing for the Trek franchise.
Firefly and Dr. Horrible‘s Nathan Fillion has had his new series picked up. Not sci-fi, but we wish him luck, all the same. (And could we get a little shirtless action there, too?)
Yup. Smells like a new season!
Battlestar Galactica costume auction in the works…
Interested in purchasing costumes and props from the Sci-Fi series Battlestar Galactica? Apollo’s or Starbuck’s flight suit? Admiral Adama’s uniform? full size Raptors or Vipers ? (will those even fit in my garage?) Propworx (which has handled Star Trek prop & costume auctions in the past) will be having a series of live and online auctions of 3,000 BSG costumes and props next year, and has started a blog of what they have found in production storage, found at www.battlestarprops.com.
