The Clone Wars takes in $15.5 million

It’s not the greatest weekend for Star Wars at the box office: AP reports that the animated film took in $15.5 million, coming in third behind Tropic Thunder ($26M) and The Dark Knight ($16.8M.) Respectable, but not exactly the kind of figures we’re used to seeing… Plus, TDK also rolled over the original Star Wars’ to become the second highest grossing film, as it’s been threatening to for weeks. Bummer.

The film is not doing very well with reviewers (a stunning 19% on Rotten Tomatoes) but many fans do seem to be liking it. Yay? In any case, our poll on The Clone Wars is up now: Vote on the sidebar or under the cut. Continue readingThe Clone Wars takes in $15.5 million”

Informal review corner: The Clone Wars

The Clone Wars

We haven’t had much time to discuss it yet, but none of us seemed particularly impressed last night. My personal take: It’s far too long, and adds very little to the (real) movie experience. If you’re absolutely dying for more prequel, you might get more out of it, but as someone mainly apathetic to the whole era (and bridge stories in general) my impression was “Meh.” I’m glad I got to see it with Jaders, but it’s not something I would recommend to anyone without a basic working knowledge for the prequel EU.

But: Stinky is adorable.

Jaders, (I know you’re reading this in the suite!) leave your reviews/thoughts in the comments!

Today in The Clone Wars: Gear up for midnight!

On the official site: a new video, Villians; Weekend events; The Happy Meals should be available tomorrow.

The LAT’s Geoff Boucher interviews Dave Filoni; After Elton’s Lyle Masaki says Ziro the Hutt is a gay stereotype, while i09 says to leave him alone.

The average on Rotten Tomatoes has gone down to 29%… Here’s more reviews: io9, San Diego Union-Tribune, The Seattle Times, The Portland Mercury, The Sydney Morning News, The New York Daily News, E!, This is London, The Age.

Tonight is Games Night, the official beginning of JadeCon, and then several of us are going to the midnight showing…

So far: The Clone Wars in reviews

One final update before I pack up the laptop: The Clone Wars is currently averaging 44% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now keep in mind, this probably isn’t even all the reviews that are currently live, and the bulk of them will be showing up Wednesday and Thursday as daily newspapers post their weekend content. So don’t start harping on how the media doesn’t understand Star Wars quite yet: It’s far too early to take the percentage at face value.

Today in The Clone Wars: Six new commercials

StarWars.com posted six TV spots this morning. They’re all kind of blurring together for me at this point so I’m not sure if these are new or the same ones that’ve been knocking around, but I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen Dark Day, above. The others: Around the Galaxy, New Apprentice, Never Before Seen, Legends, and Untold Story.

And here are a few more reviews for you: IESB, the AP, and Newsday’s Pet Rock blog. Meanwhile, The Guardian’s Ben Child looks into the ’embargo’ that killed Harry Knowles’ review.
