The Last Jedi: Maz’s role, wipe transitions and what about Phasma?

Making Star Wars’ latest is about Maz Kanata and her role in this film, which we already know will be fairly small. They also have some indications that we haven’t seen the last of Jakku in this trilogy.

→ Rian Johnson has revealed that The Last Jedi will have a record low number of wipe transitions for a Star Wars film: 12. The reigning champion is The Phantom Menace, which had 55. Of course, there was a poll.

→ A new rumor from Reddit and SWNN claims that we won’t actually see Phasma without her helmet. Would Vanity Fair lie to us? (Well, maybe.)

The Last Jedi: New First Order walker, starship revealed

The Star Wars Show has revealed two new vehicles from The Last Jedi, both from the First Order. The AT-M6 (All Terrain Megacaliber Six) is a new walker with a “more simian-like gait,” and the First Order Dreadnought is a new gigantic spaceship that measures 7669.72 meters (or 25162.8 feet). Both vehicles were the subjects of rumors from the folks at Making Star Wars. There are still some unrevealed details, so tread lightly.

Michael Kenneth Williams cut from Han Solo film due to scheduling issues

Michael Kenneth Williams is out of the Han Solo film due to scheduling issues with reshoots, he tells Deadline today.

“When Ron Howard got hired to finish out the film, there were some reshoot issues that needed to be done in regards to my character, in order for it to match the new direction which the producers wanted Ron to carry the film in,” Williams told Deadline. “And that would have required me on a plane a month ago to London, to Pinewood, to do reshoots. But I’m here, on location in Africa. It’s scheduling.”

He said his role was a half-human, half-animal and “a kick-ass character.” He told Vanity Fair that his character was a link between Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and Emilia Clarke, whose character name is Kira (or Kura, per Making Star Wars.)

LFL may be considering a Jabba standalone

Variety is backing up The Hollywood Reporter on yesterday’s news about an Obi-wan Kenobi movie with director Stephen Daldry, but what’s really making waves today is the one-liner about how a Jabba the Hutt movie also being in the pipeline. Alrighty then.

Pictured, above: My approximate feelings on a Jabba the Hutt movie. Between this and Boba Fett, it’s like the rumors are endeavoring to make movies on saga major leaguers like Han and Obi-wan more palatable. But man, if this is what they’re really knocking around for future spin-offs, no wonder Rogue One got to be first at bat.

Rumor: That Obi-wan movie may finally be happening

I guess all that fan foot-stomping may finally be paying off. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) is in “early talks” to direct a standalone starring Obi-wan Kenobi. It’s in “the earliest of stages” and there’s no script yet, so I don’t expect we’ll hear anything official from Lucasfilm anytime soon. (EW’s Anthony Breznican also seems positive on it – though again, “very early.”)

It’s not known if Ewan McGregor will return, but he’s been open to the idea ever since the standalones actually became a thing.

Better than Boba Fett, I guess.
