Buried in a look at the Oscar hopefuls, Variety reports that The Last Jedi will have its world-premiere on December 8, a week before the U.S. release. That’s pretty much in line with past premieres. For those of us at home, all we can hope for is a red carpet livestream, which Lucasfilm did for The Force Awakens and Rogue One.
Lucasfilm has annouced some of their promotional partners for The Last Jedi, and they include some unsurprising names – Nissan, Verizon, General Mills. The real surprise? Christian Louboutin, which is best-known for their distinctive red-soled high heels. But they do have have a beauty line now that they’re playing up in the press release.
But speaking of beauty, Cargo Cosmetics will be debuting a Star Wars line for the holidays. It’ll debut in Kohl’s stores next month.
We can probably expect to hear about more partners and products in the coming weeks.
It seems like half the fandom is (understandably!) chomping at the bit for the next trailer for The Last Jedi. But, if the past is anything to go on, we still likely have nearly a month to go.

The Last Jedi novelization by Jason Fry has been scheduled for a March 6, 2018 release in both hardcover and eBook. This is a bit of a departure from the novelizations for The Force Awakens and Rogue One, both of which came out as eBooks on the film release dates, followed by a hardcover a few weeks later. Maybe the rush wasn’t worth the result?
The Last Jedi will be in theaters December 15, 2017.
Despite the two-pronged release, The Force Awakens novelization managed to become the first Star Wars novel to hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller list in several years.

With J.J. Abrams on board as director, Episode IX has been pushed back to December 20, 2019. Looks like the Han Solo movie will remain the only post-Disney Star Wars film to release in May… At least for the moment.
Well, this is somewhat unexpected. The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams will return to helm Episode IX. He’ll co-write the script with Chris Terrio (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, seriously.)
Last week, Lucasfilm announced that they had parted ways with original IX director Colin Trevorrow. Abrams’ name was being thrown around, along with The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, but he was considered the longer shot… Jokes on us, I suppose.
UPDATE: Deadline reports that Johnson was offered the slot, but declined.
Vulture reports on why Colin Trevorrow left Episode IX – per “speculation from a ranking Hollywood movie insider with direct knowledge of the productions on both The Book of Henry and Jurassic World” – that the director’s ego might have gotten in the way. Basically – do not mess with Kathleen Kennedy.
“When the reviews for Book of Henry came out, there was immediately conjecture that Kathy was going to dump him because they weren’t thrilled with working with him anyway,” the executive continues. “He’s a difficult guy. He’s really, really, really confident. Let’s call it that.”
Previous reports claimed script issues were at the source of the split.
After a brief period where it was unclear, it looks like Star Wars and Marvel will be going to Disney’s streaming service after all. Presumably this won’t apply to Marvel’s series that were co-produced with Netflix before Disney decided to create their own service, but future projects will likely debut there.
Disney’s streaming service is expected to debut in 2019. New releases through 2018 (which include The Last Jedi and the upcoming Han Solo standalone) will probably still debut on Netflix due to Disney’s shortened contract.
