Bryan Young got talk to Steve Sansweet at Comic-Con, and naturally he asked what was up with getting the movies on Blu-Ray. Steve’s answer? Well, it’s a feature that’s likely to get folded in with that box set we’ve been hearing about for years, and we’ll see it when the live-action series is nigh: aka “the next several years.” Ahh, vagueness, our old friend!
SDCC ’09 photo: The Disco Stormtrooper
San Diego Comic-Con is over. But the con’s spirit – and the reports – are sure to live on. We’ll try our best to catchup. Just not right now. (Photo by the San Diego Shooter, aka Nathan Rupert.)
StarWars.com is still posting pics as well, including our first look at a Clone Wars pop-up book and our only look at the FOTJ panel.
Video: Jake Lloyd ten years after The Phantom Menace
The Sci Fi Channel Australia talked to Jake Lloyd at Supanova in Sydney last month.
SDCC ’09: Star Wars Spectacular videos
StarWars.com has posted all the video shown at the Spectacular: Star Wars: In Concert, the Fan Stories Project, TFU Sith Edition, The Clone Wars S2 teaser and The Clone Wars box set trailer that was shown during the G4 commercial break.
SDCC ’09: Saturday morning Star Wars news roundup
James sent in these photos from the Spectacular. Note the hatless Filoni. We’ve got a few hours to go on the G4 broadcast, but from what we heard last night I’m recommending copious use of the DVR. Below, the return of the hat, plus The Clone Wars voice actors.
And now, your morning news updates:
- Sounds like the Fan Movie Challenge Awards were anything but a disappointment: My favorite, Star Wars Retold, was the George Lucas Selects! Other winners include Saber, Family Dysfunction, Star Sports Theatrical Trailer, Star Wars in a Notebook and Star Wars Cinemagic. Check them out at Atom.
- The reports from The Clone Wars design and The Old Republic panels.
- And for those of you who like to check out girls in Slave Leia getup, StarWars.com provides.
Still no Fate of the Jedi panel writeups from anyone… It also seems odd that The Clone Wars footage isn’t up yet, but I’m hopeful it’ll be there eventually. UPDATE: The teaser went up just after the G4 broadcast. Duh.
SDCC ’09 roundup: Star Wars Day in the afternoon
Fine, I cave: I’ll be updating this throughout the afternoon/evening, at least until the Spectacular… Unless something huge breaks!
The sun says hello. Afternoon for me, anyway: All this was morning for California, and you can tell because StarWars.com has snapshots from the Fan Club Breakfast, and more from TFN. (5:20e)
All the wonderful toys. They also have Hasbro’s presentation. The Comic Packs are mostly things we’ve already seen, but I think the Exar Kun and Ulic Qel Droma are new. Walmart is getting an exclusive Corran Horn/Whistler and Rouge Squadron #1 two-pack (Dllr Nep and Plourr Ilo?) while Target will have a Wedge with X-Wing.
But the biggest news in here for us is that they’re adding Jacen and Jaina Solo to the Droid Factory line in 2010! Meanwhile, future Comic Packs will include Legacy’s Delia Blue/Darth Nihl and KOTOR’s Jarael/Rohlan Dyre. (5:20e)
Something something in 3-D. EU Cantina was tweeting live from The Clone Wars panel. Tidbits include S2 tone, comments on rogue Jedi and the unlikliness of a second movie. (5:20e)
SDCC ’09: The morning Star Wars catchup
Get with the now, man! Oh, USA Today. Why are you trying to fan the flames of Prequel vs. Original Trilogy rivalry? Protip: It is no longer 2002. We OT fans can (mostly) roll with it.
Party like it’s 2010. Hey, TFN came back! On the Celebration V note, the rumor mill seems to be favoring Chicago and this pleases me. Midwest represent! No Florida!
Bookstuffs. Check out the cover for The Making of The Empire Strikes Back. And perhaps today someone will enlighten us on this Star Wars: Visions thing. There’s also a panel report on what has to be the most ridiculous visual dictionary so far. And yes, Pablo you are shameless.
New Robot Chicken: Bonus segment from the DVD. Down nerds, down.
Phototacular. StarWars.com and Rebelscum don’t stop snapping.
But wait! It’s a comic con! Dark Horse is bringing select issues of Empire, Legacy and The Clone Wars to the iPhone and will be producing two Star Wars one-shots.
Nerd-spotting. Great White Snark has a Day 1 costume gallery.
Facepalm. Fans say Avatar will be as game-changing as Star Wars. Please stop feeding James Cameron’s ego. Don’t you remember what happened after Titanic?
Video: Even collectibles get teaser trailers now
And here I was thinking that book trailers were kind of ridiculous….
SDCC ’09 quickie: CV, ‘In Concert’ comes to America
First off, TFN was reporting earlier that something from Hasbro was touting a 2010 Celebration V. (Their website now says “the next Star Wars Celebration.”) Presumably TFN caught an earlier version, but the site seems to be a victim of SDCC web traffic, and it’s down.
As for official announcements, we now have the details of the Star Wars: In Concert (aka The Musical Journey) ‘worldwide’ tour, courtesy of a spiffy (and noisy) new site, StarWarsInConcert.com. The tour begins in Anaheim, California in October, with furthur dates in Pheonix, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Jose, Seattle, Portland, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Presumably more dates, perhaps more international ones or even something in the general vicinity of Detroit, are forthcoming.
And finally, The Force Trainer is now in the Star Wars Shop.
SDCC ’09 photo: From the con floor
Our own JawaJames, a San Diego native, is posting Comic-Con pics on his Flickr. Above, the Lucasfilm pavilion!
Of course, Mary, Bonnie, Pablo and crew are also in town, taking and posting a ton of floor photos from the con. You guys feast on them (Preview night and set up, so far,) watch the StarWars.com blog and keep an eye on the usual fansites, and I’ll be back later today to gather more links.
