Hasbro reveals The Force Awakens TIE fighter, Fan’s choice winner(s) at SDCC

TIE-fighterTo the surprise of, well, everyone, there weren’t a whole mass of The Force Awakens toy reveals at the Hasbro panel at SDCC. But what they did show was pretty cool – and rather large: A 6″ scale TIE fighter, with “elite” pilot. (There’s a pretty neat display case recreating a scene from the trailer on the show floor now.)

As expected, Knights of the Old Republic‘s Revan won the 2015 Fan’s Choice poll by a landslide, but the results for Rebels Sabine Wren were so good that she’s going to be made as a 6″ Black Series figure, too! They also revealed that a Kanan Jarrus figure is coming to the Black Series as well. Other new 6″ figures include Rebels Ahsoka, a Tatooine Luke Skywalker, a Jango Fett, and one of the new Inquisitors (the dude) from S2 of Rebels. Check the StarWars.com liveblog for pics (very small, with bigger ones coming) and other details.

Rumor: Colin Trevorrow to direct Episode IX?

Trevorrow

Director Colin Trevorrow, whose Jurassic World is the highest grossing film of 2015 so far, has been tapped to direct Episode IX, Umberto Gonzalez of Heroic Hollywood reports. With Star Wars in SDCC’s Hall H coming up this evening, and IX the only announced film that doesn’t have a director yet, this may very well turn out to be true.

Trevorrow’s name came up for Episode VII in the early days, and of course Jurassic World‘s sucess is a very large point in his favor.

Rumor roundup #2: Snoke concept art, more familiar faces for Rogue One?

snokeWe’re not done yet with the random rumors today, apparently…

Making Star Wars (of course) has a description of some Supreme Leader Snoke concept art for The Force Awakens. Jason suspects it wasn’t the final version, and it does sound a little too reminiscent of another recent high-profile baddie…

→ And on the Rogue One front, Bloody Disgusting claims there are a few more familiar faces in the mix, something we’ve heard before.

The space hairdresser and the cowboy: Best #StarWars and #TheForceAwakens tweets for June 25-July 7

@SamuelAAdams: I just hope the Han Solo movie is still an origin story because I’ve always had major questions about his vest.

Yup, a little more board-clearing ahead of the big con. Hey, how about that Han Solo thing? Didja get all the fancasting out of your system? Please be sure you have all that fancasting out of your system, make sure your snark detector is in the upright and locked position, and… Go.

Rumor roundup: The ‘full slate’ and who might we see in Rogue One?

rumors-swirl-sw-probeYesterday we had a big chunk of news that pretty much blew everything else away, and with SDCC officially beginning tonight we’ll likely get even more, so let’s clear the boards with a few things that have been floating around regarding Episode VII, Rogue One and (maybe) even Episode VIII.

→ Before we break for possible spoilers and casting rumors, A ‘full slate” of Star Wars films has ‘leaked,’ but it directly contradicts yesterday’s Han Solo news, with a Kenobi film after Episode VIII and “Fett/Solo” in 2020. Okay! (UPDATE: It’s fake. I’m shocked.)

LEGO Movie directors on board for a young Han Solo film

lord-miller800

The second Anthology film will feature a young Han Solo film, and The LEGO Movie’s Christopher Miller and Phil Lord are at the helm, StarWars.com announced today.

The screenplay, by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, focuses on how Han Solo became “the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina.” The film is set for a May 25, 2018 release.

I’d say to gird yourself for the casting speculation, but we already know how that goes…

According to The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news just before LFL did, the Han Solo film is not the one that Josh Trank was working on, though obviously it’s occupying the same slot now. That film was rumored (though never confirmed) to be about Boba Fett.
