The real problem with Forces of Destiny?

Youtuber Jenny Nicholson has a smart, measured (and sometimes hilarious) take on the Forces of Destiny line, how it’s failing the intended audience of young girls, and how it could be improved. As someone who was a girl pre-Bratz (let alone Monster High, a doll line I was only barely aware of), it’s a pretty intriguing look at a lot of things that wouldn’t even have occured to me – and here’s one real-life example from a dad.

(And yes, if you’re keeping track, there is a brief Mara Jade mention.)

No, Tim Zahn is not under contract for two more Thrawn books

There was a bit of misinterpretation going on regarding something Timothy Zahn said at a con recently. Zahn himself sets the record straight: He has proposals, but not contracts, for two more Thrawn books… And he doesn’t know anything about Episode IX. It’s simply the nature of the franchise that movies will dictate the rest of the content. (And given that Thrawn went MIA in the Rebels finale, and there’s a brand new cartoon coming up… There are a lot of balls in the air even outside of the films that could have an impact on anything else regarding Thrawn.)

Zahn’s next Star Wars book, Thrawn: Alliances, will be out in July.

Jon Favreau drops some details on his Star Wars TV show

While Star Wars Twitter was all aflutter about Ewan McGregor attending last night’s Solo premiere (in light of the afternoon’s big rumor), it was Star Wars TV guy Jon Favreau who ended up slipping us some news. Favreau, who voices Rio Durant in the film, first told Anthony Carboni on the official livestream that he’s written about half of the first season of his upcoming streaming show.

New short to debut on May 25 Forces of Destiny broadcast

There were only seven episodes in the last pack of Forces of Destiny shorts, as opposed to the usual 8, and Lucasfilm publicist Tracy Cannobbio says the eighth one will debut in the May 25 broadcast on the Disney Channel.

The timing makes it seem likely that it could be related to Solo – a Qi’ra, L3-37 or Val short, perhaps? But it’s only a day after the film debuts, so much of the potential audience might not even know those characters. We also know, thanks to the toys, that there’s a Rey and Kylo short in the pipeline as well. Rey only appeared in one of last week’s shorts.

Hopefully we’ll hear more (beyond the time) in the days leading up to the broadcast.

Star Wars Resistance is the next cartoon, debuts in the fall

The next Star Wars cartoon is officially announced, and it’s Resistance, set sometime before The Force Awakens. The “anime-inspired” series will star a character named Kazuda Xiono.

Xiono is “a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.” The series will also feature BB-8 and appearances by Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, with Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie reprising their roles.
