Last week, we asked what HBO series you would most like the Star Wars live-action show pull inspiration from. The first few days were a dead heat between Deadwood and Rome, but Deadwood ended up pulling ahead with 54 votes for 46% of the vote. Rome pulled in a respectable second with 46 votes and 39%. Most surprising was 10% (12 votes) for Sex and the City compared to a mere 5% (6 votes) for The Sopranos. Would I could be surprised by which CJers voted for SATC… But overall, it looks like a lot of fans will be pleased (in theory) if Deadwood is indeed an influence!
Meanwhile, this week’s poll is now active. It asks who you think is more likely to die with their series: The Clone Wars‘ Ahsoka Tano, Last of the Jedi’s Ferus Olin, or Legacy of the Force’s Darth Caedus. Don’t get too excited: It’ll only run through Sunday night.
Our latest sidebar poll, which asks what HBO show’s influence you’d like to see on the live-action series, expires this weekend. Get your vote in now if you haven’t already!
…Never going to do that again. Pie charts forever! In any case, the results are clear: 30% opted to go back and make lots of money on IBM stock. 16% of you would go all the way to the End of the Universe, and 14% would skip ahead to the Star Trek era. Optimism! 14% of you would go back to the 1800’s (pretty dress!) 11% opted for the Renaissance, and 8% for the time of the Pharaohs. As for the final option, well… Go ahead to predict Super Bowl winners? Both of us missed that typo. In any case, I feel confident enough to predict that my hometown team (the Lions) isn’t going to get there any time soon. Fail team is fail!
Our new poll concerns some recent claims regarding the Star Wars live-action TV show. Vote early and as often as your IP will allow!
Because of the low turnout (and also my terminal forgetfulness in thinking up a new one) the time travel poll shall remain open throughout Sunday. You don’t need to know anything about Stargate to make the choice, so vote now!
Meanwhile, please feel free to drop suggestions for future polls in this entry. I have a few ideas, but it never hurts to stockpile!
Dude, io9. Like it’s humanly possible for Indiana Jones to flop? Remember how The Phantom Menace made $64,820,970 on it’s opening weekend back in 1999? It might not have been a critical success, it may not have knocked down Titanic, it may have irrevocably changed the landscape of Star Wars fandom in a way Han shooting first could only dream of, but that sucker pulled in the cash. Never underestimate the power of nostalgia. Or the addition of Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg.
Last week, we asked what you thought of the latest Legacy of the Force book, Karen Traviss’ Revelation. And it turns out most of you… Haven’t read it yet! Shocking.
Out of 112 voters total, 34 of you haven’t read it yet and 26 have no plans to read it. Of those who did, another 26 loved it, 16 thought it was okay, and 5 each went for ‘Meh’ and ‘Didn’t like it.’ The percentages don’t quite add up to 100%, but polls are weird that way.
In other Revelation news, it hit #1 on the New York Times and Publisher’s Weekly mass-market bestseller lists. It’s not totally unprecedented (Fury was #3) but I suspect part of this is that it’s simply not the season for a lot of big releases yet. (Or, Boba Fett fans: Go figure.) We’ll see how Invincible does in May.
Our new sidebar poll, inspired by the season finale of Stargate: Atlantis, is about time travel. It expires next Saturday at midnight. (I promise – no pie charts.)
Our second sidebar poll expires at midnight (Eastern) tonight, so get your answer in while you still can. The next one relates to last night’s Stargate: Atlantis season final. (Don’t worry – Paula wrote it.)
