Her Universe has announced the first wave of their new Marvel line! There’s more coming, including a Loki dress, Ashley Eckstein tells The Daily Dot. A Black Widow hoodie will be available at San Diego Comic Con. And Ashley herself will be voicing Dagger of Cloak and Dagger in the animated Ultimate Spider-Man.
The line is also part of Marvel’s own “Characters and Creators” initiative, which is targeting women and girls. (The new Ms. Marvel is an earlier example.)
We know that Her Universe is expecting to announce several new liscensees, and if this Captain America shirt (prematurely?) available for order on ThinkGeek is any indication, Marvel is indeed one of them. Unless Ashley is suddenly modeling other lines… (Via @Shadadukal)
Last time they did the poll, in 2008, Empire came in third, behind The Godfather and Raiders of the Lost Ark. This time, The Godfather slips to #2 and Raiders fell from #2 to #9.
Their announcement seems to indicate they will be going back to their own ideas for the new films. They have said many times in the past that they did not like the direction the TV shows took, so one can expect that canon to be blown up pretty quickly.
Whether or not this will work for or against these films is anybody’s guess. While there are many fans who enjoyed the original film, it was the humor and snark of the TV series that seemed to be at the heart of the love for the TV franchise. That’s not much evident in the original film. Still, the TV franchise got a bit bogged down towards the end, so a fresh start might be just what folks want.
This one contains a lot of footage we haven’t seen in the previous trailers. And yeah, I’m still a little excited, because no matter how many great Marvel movies we see and subpar Wolverine movies we get, the X-Men were still my first real superheroes.
Harrison Ford had an AMA on Reddit this afternoon as part of the promotion for the Showtime documentary Years of Living Dangerously. This was more brief and less focused on Star Wars (and guacamole) than Mark Hamill’s a few months back, but Ford did answer several Star Wars and Indiana Jones questions.
Someone said thank you for being a part of so many childhood films: Well, thank you. I really appreciate that. It’s a privilege to be able to be involved with people as talented as the people I’ve had the luck to work with, and it’s just been a great experience for me, and I’m glad that so many of the films I’ve had the luck to do were films that could be enjoyed by families together.
“[Marvel] made my hair into the most incredible well-made wig and they gave it to the Star Wars people. It’s just so funny to think that my hair is made into a wig, next to all these Star Wars monster heads in a warehouse. I thought that was really funny.”
