So, the movie that is supposedly going to change cinema forever basically looks like Ferngully meets Reboot (Totally 90’s-riffic! OR IS IT?) meets half-decent modern CGI. The next Star Wars? Stranger things have happened, but somehow I doubt it.
Whedon says Dr. Horrible sequel is in the works
No details, but he did tell MTV that there is a story for a second go-round:
“We’re in there plugging. The writers are trying to put something together,” Whedon told MTV News. “We haven’t even decided on a venue. We have a story and we’re working that. We’re just starting with that.”
Director John Hughes dead at 59
John Hughes, the director of the classic 80’s films Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and more, died this morning of a heart attack in New York City. His movies were hugely influential to those of us who grew up during the 80’s and on teen movies in general. (Hattip to /film)

Could David Tennant be playing Bilbo Baggins?
Geoff Boucher pointed out yesterday that David Tennant is heading to San Diego for the first time – ostenibly to promote his last spin as Doctor Who – and could that perhaps mean he’s won the lead role in The Hobbit? Others are taking the speculation as an excuse to crow that it’s a done deal, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
As for Peter Jackson, he’s denying that we’ll get any casting news at Comic-Con.
Boucher’s also running an opinion poll, where Atonement’s James McAvoy is just narrowly beating Tennant.
