THX-1138: Can you feel this?

In case there was anyone who might have missed it, George Lucas’ early work THX 1138 is being released for a limited engagement this weekend in 21 cities.

Yeah. It’s a bit depressing. But you can check out what San Francisco’s BART system looked like when it was shiny new. (It was filmed in one of the stations before it opened.)

Those who prefer being depressed in the comfort of their own homes can obtain the DVD on Tuesday, September 14th.

Movie News: X-Men, Underworld, and Clerks

Joss Whedon X-Men rumors ‘all-but-official.’ Yay! And Whedon’s been quoted as saying he wouldn’t direct unless he could write the script, so… Double yay! A lot of people are afraid this will take him away from Buffy and Angel work, but think how much good this could do for his career… And come’on! It’s X-Men! As for Storm… dear lord, just write her out. Or recast. Halle Berry was never the best choice in the first place – I’m sure there’s a ton of young actresses in Hollywood who could fill in.

There’s talk about doing a sequel to Underworld. Gotta agree with John at Movieblog – Underworld was a fairly crappy film that had the possibility of being something pretty good.

More on the Clerks sequel – Kevin Smith soothes fan’s worries. And check out this review of the Clerks 10th anniversary DVD.

Movie News

Filming starts on Peter Jackson’s King Kong next week.

John Rhys-Davies (Sallah) talks about the fourth Indiana Jones movie, says that Lucas wants to take another pass at the script. George Lucas? Script? Always an, erm, hopeful sign.

Narnia Fans has a copy of the press release with all the details on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

There’s another Highlander movie coming? Although this article from Movie Poop Shoot is about an animated feature, there’s also a bit about a fifth live action installment titled Highlander: The Source. Epp!

Speaking of live action, the film version of Aeon Flux has been shut down due to an injury to the star, Charlize Theron. Sounds like a good idea to me. The last time we had starlet + Oscar + action film, we got Catwoman.

Clerks… again

Kevin Smith has annouced that he’s going to do a sequel to Clerks. What??

“It’s about what happens when that lazy, 20-something malaise lasts into your 30s. Those dudes are kind of still mired, not in that same exact situation, but in a place where it’s time to actually grow up and do something more than just sit around and dissect pop culture and talk about sex,” Smith said during an interview at his Hollywood office. “It’s: What happened to these dudes?”

So… it’ll be a retail Office Space with more swearing?

Movie News

Alien vs. Predator ruled the box office last weekend. Huh.

AICN has a scoop that Sam Raimi – hot off Spiderman 2 – and his homies are in negotiations for an Ash vs. Freddy vs. Jason film. (Hollywood Reporter confirms.) This vs thing is really getting out of hand… but how can I say no to more of that snarky demi-god of horror, Bruce Campbell? Not being impressed with the Spiderman franchise, some Evil Dead action would be a welcome respite from the inevitable Spiderman 3: Again With The Whining.

Tom Cruise will star in a new version of War of the Worlds.

Get a behind the scenes look at Serenity.

Fanboys Weep

The advance buzz on Aliens vs. Predator isn’t very good. Fox cancels their premiere. The Movie Blog speculates. A corporate plant shows up in comments. People are generally cranky. AICN, the bastion of good taste, is invoked.

Seriously, is anyone really going to be surprised that a movie with ‘vs.’ in the title probably sucks eggs?

Harry Potter DVD Preview

Fan reviews of “The Prisoner of Azkaban” seemed to be fairly split on the “loved it” or “hated it” opinions of Alfonso Cuaron’s interpretation.

Get ready to start the debate all over again. The Harry Potter Official Site has posted a trailer for the upcoming DVD.

Some very fun features. But what intrigued me most was a clip from the interview with JK Rowling in which she says that Cuaron has actually included some bits that foretell what is to come in upcoming books.

Won’t that have everyone running to check out the movie again?
