MTV interviews Genndy Tartakovsky and shows five new sketches from Brian Froud for ‘s Power of the Dark Crystal. MTV’s flash gallery is temperamental, but AICN has reposted the pics.
Dobby, forsaken
No Dobby in Order of the Phoenix. At least Kreacher is still on board. I know you’re overjoyed.
Release the Wantons!
Is Orlando Bloom not necessary for a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film? A more interesting question: Is a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean necessary at all?
Official trailer for 300
Sparta has no pants! Sparta needs no pants!
Also be sure to check out this comic-to-screen comparison from Solace in Cinema.
Meet your new timesuck
I dare you to spend less than a half hour browsing Not Starring, a site that details the roles that the stars didn’t play. Was Jodie Foster really second choice to play Princess Leia? Sean Connery turned down Gandolf and Morpheus? Did Ewan MacGregor say no to Neo? I don’t know how verifiable any of this information is, (David Boreanaz turned down the lead in Batman Begins? Really?) but it’s still fascinating for the ‘what-if’ aspect.
Wantons Envious. Highlights at 11.
Raising the envy of Wantons everywhere, Michelle Williams not only scores Heath Ledger in her private life, but gets to star alongside both Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor in the upcoming film The Tourist.
It’s about a man who is seduced into joining a wild sex club and then framed for murder.
Vegas refuses to take bets on the odds that Ewan will end up naked in this one.
Trying to resist the head-chopping jokes
Pictures of Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman on the set of The Other Boleyn Girl, an adaption of the book of the same name. Portman is playing Anne Boleyn, with Johansson in the title role.
Since the costume-porn is minimal on that one, I’ll throw in some scans of Kirsten Dunst in Vogue pimping Marie Antoinette.
Trouble brewing in HP fandom
Of course, when isn’t there impending wank in the Harry Potter fandom? First, Emma Watson (Hermoine) seems a little reluctant when it comes to signing on for the final two films. Then, the first stills from the Order of the Pheonix film have been released.
At least the stills are pretty neat.
Peter Jackson speaks
In an interview with AICN, Peter Jackson talks about the limbo that is The Hobbit. Guess what? He heard the latest rumors on the internet, along with everyone else. More hopeful is the first part of the interview, where he talks about the Temeraire books. He even mentions Star Wars and franchise-building:
What I love about what George Lucas has done with STAR WARS, which I think is really cool, is that you have the movies and the movies, obviously, are the flagships of the saga, of the storytelling, but you have the comic books and the novels and everything that fills out what happens inbetween the films and what happens in other places while the films are occurring. I love that expansion of the world. This is, to me, has also got the same possibilities. The movies can be the epics and there can be other forms of entertainment that can be running alongside the movies, expanding the world of the books and the story.
Meanwhile, they’re casting for Hobbits in London. Thanks to Yav for the links!
Eragon trailer
If Star Wars and [insert generic fantasy epic here] had a baby, it would probably look a hell of a lot like this. I’ve heard the plots are similar, but in the trailer alone we get a sunset gazing scene and familiar dialogue about the Force dragons.
