Video Monday

Triumph of the Empire, an Imperial propaganda film entirely in LEGO. Inspired, obviously, by Triumph of the Will (which should be no stranger to well-studied fans,) when I first watched this I thought it was from the latest LEGO game, but apparently not. Amazing.

Speaking of LEGO… The Han Solo Affair. This one is done for LFL/LEGO – the company has also done Monty Python and Spiderman films.

Three in the Afternoon is a fanfilm about dorks with lightsabers. That doesn’t suck. (Trust me: Most of them do.)

There are a couple of Star Wars references in Weird Al’s latest video, ‘White and Nerdy.’ Are you shocked? I’m shocked.

More!
The Mother of All Movie Trailers. Edward Norton!
Dancing Jango
Stephen Colbert and Buffy team up. Why? BEARS!
Henchmen Strike Back! Why aren’t you watching The Venture Brothers?

Random Secret Cracktastic Bonus Video: Stephen Colbert’s ‘Charlene (I’m right behind you)’

Filk Friday

This week’s featured filk takes a prime song for Amidala filking and turns it into a rockin’ tribute to Padme’s addition to the Star Wars pantheon of strong female characters. Set to the ever popular ABBA tune, Naboo Queen is one of a trilogy of ABBA filks by HollywdLiz, joined by “Kenobi” and my personal favorite, “On Naboo”.

You can find these filks and more from HollywdLiz here.

Video Monday: All-Trek Edition

I’m late today, sorry. My teleporter broke. Hopefully this vast array of Star Trek videos will make up for my tardiness. (Hey, it’s forty years. I can give them a video post.)

The Kirk/Spock ‘Closer’ fanvid that’s burning up the internets. Yup, that’s the fandom that invented slash… Like you had any doubts.

Shatner’s infamous “Get a Life” clip from Saturday Night Live.

Nerf Herder sings about Mr. Spock. FANDOM BETRAYERS! Erm, good show, mates!

Betty White roasts William Shatner. Who knew that sweet little old lady could be so dirty?

Funny commercial for Star Trek: Enterprise.

Of course, no collection of videos is complete without a Monty Python mashup.

These Trek highlights from Youtube user m185874 are not be missed. He has uploaded fanvids from other series – most notably Babylon5 – that promise to be at least half as hilarious as these:
Bohemian Rhapsody
I Will Survive
I’m Too Sexy
The Time Warp

And, of course… KHHAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!

From the Blogside

Apparently some other space franchise is 40 years old this week. Pablo has some thoughts on Star Trek, the mother of modern fandom.

JawaJoey considers the upcoming DVD release and reaction. I’m gearing up for the flood of disappointed/overblown/smug blog and forum posts myself…

Nar Cranor has advice for folks wanting to start a fansite. He has some good points, but it seems to me there’s a lot more to it than just finding something new… You have to do it well. Or at least, better than anyone else doing the same thing. And don’t start a forum (or a group blog…) unless you’re pretty sure you can bring in enough folks to populate it properly.

Reviews: RJ Peters on Bloodlines, and Suzanne takes on both Betrayal and Bloodlines.
