Like abs? Like laundry? You’ll love Comic Con!

Yes, the reasons ladies enjoy San Deigo Comic Con all come down to there being hot guys (and vampires!) there. What more could a woman ask for than this:

Women will be rushing the stage, offering to do star Jake Gyllenhaal’s laundry on those washboard abs that he acquired for the film, since he spends much of it fighting, shirtless or both. Jake, we don’t want to know how to quit you.

Mmm, laundry. We love laundry. But does the Gyllenhaal come in a front-loading model?

Linkwhoring: Can you handle more Star Trek?

Blast from the past. Newsweek has a fantastic audio slideshow featuring long-time fan Angelique Trouvere talking about Trek conventions of the 70’s. Don’t miss it!

Don’t blink. MTV points out the many cameos in the new film. There was no mistaking Tyler Perry, but who else missed Greg Grunberg? io9 goes into more detail on the various Easter Eggs.

He is Spock. Geoff Boucher has a great interview with Leonard Nimoy.

But everyone’s a Captain Kirk. Elsewhere on the Los Angeles Times site, Todd Martens takes a look at Star Trek in mainstream music.

Speaking of Kirk… You could get your own next time you fly.

Geek reads. Here’s a site devoted to Star Trek books. Huh. (via)

A fanboy moment. John Serba’s ten reasons why Star Wars is better than Star Trek. Can’t we all just get along? (via)

The Celebration I memories continue…

StarWars.com continues marching down with Celebration I coverage with the continuation of audio from a panel with creature effects supervisor Nick Dudman. And yes, there was a dance party, err, concert – Ahmed Best hosted the Jar Jar Jam.

Also, the Stooge put an idea in my mind last night… Could this week top out with a Celebration V announcement? The smart money for that would probably be on San Diego Comic Con in June, since it’s not actually summer yet, but I’ve been wrong before.

Do you remember the first Celebration?

celebration110 years ago this week, the first official Star Wars convention was held in Denver as a prelude to The Phantom Menace. StarWars.com is devoting the week to coverage, and I found a small set of pictures from Paxton Holley on Flickr.

I believe a grand total of 3 CJers attended: I was not among them. (Hell, I barely remember seeing the actual movie.) I do recall the predominant tone of the internet reports were lines and mud – not really all that different from the later events. (Minus the mud.) And that there was some sort of Jar Jar dance party. (?)

Did you go? Do you remember? Someone has to.

The catchup: Links from Twitter

Here are some of the things I’ve micro-blogged over @clubjade in the last week or so.

Hollywood hyperbole. Sony’s Amy Pascal thinks that James Cameron’s Avatar could be the next Star Wars. I’m just trying to think of an upcoming genre movie I care less about than Avatar and failing miserably.

Duck and cover, Dallas. Will Texas be able to handle the squee produced by an official Twilight convention? We can only hope the lack of Robert Pattinson gives them a fighting chance.

Space blob approaches! Guys. GUYS. Waru is coming! I repent of all my Twilight mocking. Okay, not really.

But the real question is, who did they ship? Wired’s Scott Brown takes a brief look back at Sherlock Holmes fanfic.

Presented without comment. Guess who wants to write a Wonder Woman novel?

Gate Geek – Jack’s Back!

This week is the biggest Stargate convention of the year:  Creation’s Stargate con in Vancouver.  So it stands to reason we’ll be getting lots of fun tidbits via GateWorld.

Best of all is the news from producer Brad Wright that Jack (Richard Dean Anderson) will be appearing in Stargate Universe!

Gary Jones has also confirmed that everyone’s favorite Chevron-counter, Walter, will be appearing.

And rumors (totally con-based rumors…and you know how those get) are swirling that Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) and Amanda Tapping (Sam Carter) are also appearing because they suddenly had to push back their appearance at the con for filming.  (Probably have to nix at least Amanda on that one.  Sanctuary is currently in production.  And Michael is doing a pilot.  But I’ll take it, if it’s true!)

Either way, you can catch all of these folks tonight (Friday) on Sci-Fi SyFy as Stargate takes over this Friday with airings of The Ark of Truth and Continuum.  (If you haven’t seen Continuum, watch.  It’s a really good one!)

Don’t forget Wondercon this weekend!

Those of you in the Bay Area or heading there can enjoy the second big con of the year starting today. The first big SW event, the Last Fan Movie Standing, kicks off tonight.

StarWars.com has a few picks. (Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are among the guests.) Dark Horse has some stuff going on as well, including something new on their upcoming NJO comic, Invasion.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the StarWars.com blog and Flickr for con reports.
