DragonCon’s Star Wars activities will include Aloha for Aaron Allston Day

Dragon Con is coming up Labor Day Weekend. Once again, the center of Star Wars activity will be the Star Wars at Dragon Con track. On Sunday, August 31st, the track is asking fans to wear Aloha shirts in honor of one of Aaron Allston‘s favorite wardrobe features.

That same day at 5:30pm in Hyatt International North, there will be a tribute panel to Aaron and A. C. Crispin, who lost her battle with cancer since the last Dragon Con.

Other fun Star Wars activities coming up this year include:

  • Last Party on Alderaan – Party like it’s the end of the world at what is arguably Dragon Con’s best club dance.
  • Suits, Sinatra and Star Wars Mixer – A new event that will give you the excuse to wear your best Star Wars fabric suit or Rat Pack fashion and meet fellow fans.
  • The Empire Striketh Back Table Read – A “dramatic,” or at the very least amusing, table read of Ian Doescher’s next installment in his Shakespeare’s Star Wars series.
  • An Hour with Sam Witwer – Our own Bryan Young interviews actor Sam Witwer about his love of Star Wars and his roles as Starkiller and Darth Maul on The Clone Wars.

Coming back will be the Podraces for the kids. And, as always, lots of discussion about the movies, collectibles and books.

For the most up-to-date happenings, be sure to download the Dragon Con app.

Celebration Anaheim: Filoni confirmed, know your deadlines

Celebration VII Lest we forget there’s a Celebration coming up in the spring, StarWars.com has provided us with a few deadlines and reminders.

First of all, Dave Filoni is, once again, the convention’s first confirmed guest. Because of course Dave Filoni is going to be there. By April, we’ll presumably have seen the first season of Rebels and be all geared up to hear about the second.

Also returning is Gus Lopez and his Collecting Track and the Art Show. What’s new is a Podcast Stage, which is bound to be… Something. There’s also deadlines for fan programming submissions, fan-built props and fan tables. Media registration opens October 15.

SDCC: Remembering Aaron Allston with #AlohaAaron

Del Rey crew at SDCC remembers Aaron

The Del Rey crew at San Diego Comic-Con is remembering Aaron Allston today with Hawaiian shirts and giveaways of Legacy of the Force: Betrayal. Share your own Aaron memories by using the hashtag #AlohaAaron.

Going back a tad, James posted his pictures from Friday, including a look at the hard-boiled egg shaper from Kotobukiya and the Del Rey panel.

For news purposes today, we have Marvel’s Cup O’ Joe panel this afternoon (2:45 PDT/5:45 EDT) and of course the big movie panels in Hall H.

Although there was apparently some kind of rumor going around the con that Star Wars would make a Hall H appearance today, that is all kinds of unlikely as there is no Lucasfilm or Disney movie panel outside of Marvel Studios. The only Star Wars news we are likely to get today will be about comic books, not films.

Thursday at SDCC: Rebels, Her Universe

Look at these dorks.

Our very own JJ – JawaJames – is at San Diego Comic-Con, and he’s now shared his pictures from Thursday, including the con floor, the Rebels panel, and a few things pre-screening. Amy Ratcliffe had a few thoughts on the screening for IGN, but all I’m seeing on Twitter this morning is praise – even from folks who couldn’t get into The Clone Wars.

Also last night was the Her Universe fashion show – of course, it happened at the same time as the Rebels panel. Tricia collected some tweets and things, and here’s our own Caitlin in her Padme dress. The winners were the ladies of the Back to the Future and Once Upon a Time dresses. And the new Her Universe licensee is Studio Ghibli, which I admit I never would have guessed. A Totoro dress is coming. I expect we’ll hear more today.

The big ticket for Star Wars today – for our purposes, anyway – is the Del Rey book panel (2 p.m. PDT, 5 p.m. EDT) but Hasbro is up at noon PDT/3:00 EDT so there’ll be a lot of toy news coming up as well.

SDCC: Star Wars Rebels debuts new trailer!

The Rebels panel at SDCC just wrapped up, and while there wasn’t really anything I’d consider huge news, they did debut a brand new trailer with quite a bit of new footage – and a few surprises.

Several clips were shown – here’s one:

Another is up on Entertainment Weekly.

The panel was live-blogged by Dan Brooks at StarWars.com, and the swag (first tweeted by James!) did reveal an Imperial Propaganda site, Holonet News. TFN has full audio.

There’s also another pre-panel video interview with Filoni, Prinze and Marshall on IGN.

And finally, tweets from the panel below the cut! Although there was a moment when someone questioned Tiya Sircar’s ‘geek cred’ (really, dudes?) it seems to have gone rather well.
