This week brings us a paperback reprint of one of The Last Jedi’s fiction tie-ins, and a Solo comic. First up, on Tuesday, May 29, the paperback for Canto Bight, which features novellas from Saladin Ahmed, Rae Carson, Mira Grant, and John Jackson Miller. Then, on Wednesday, May 30, it’s time for Lando: Double or Nothing #1, first issue in a five-part miniseries.
Solo’s box office is merely okay
It’s looking like Solo may be the first new Star Wars to lowball box office expectations. It’s taken in about $103 million domestically over the holiday weekend. The worldwide take is expected to be $148 million.
No, Tim Zahn is not under contract for two more Thrawn books
There was a bit of misinterpretation going on regarding something Timothy Zahn said at a con recently. Zahn himself sets the record straight: He has proposals, but not contracts, for two more Thrawn books… And he doesn’t know anything about Episode IX. It’s simply the nature of the franchise that movies will dictate the rest of the content. (And given that Thrawn went MIA in the Rebels finale, and there’s a brand new cartoon coming up… There are a lot of balls in the air even outside of the films that could have an impact on anything else regarding Thrawn.)
Zahn’s next Star Wars book, Thrawn: Alliances, will be out in July.
Marvel is taking on Beckett this summer
Woody Harrelson’s Tobia Beckett is getting a Marvel one-shot. Solicited for August, Beckett will be written by Gary Duggan (Chewbacca) with art by Will Sliney, Edgar Salazar and Marc Laming. The solicitation promises to reveal more about Enfys Nest and why they are “so dead set on taking him down once and for all.”
→ Solo is tracking for a $130-150M opening weekend – below the previous tracking, but still not a number to scoff at.
→ In addition to the cover story, Variety also has an interview with Donald Glover.
→ Emilia Clarke was on Jimmy Fallon, where she shows that her Shyriiwook is NOT up to spec (there’s also a new clip!), talks about ditching a screening for the royal wedding (on TV), and played charades.
It’s movie week, and the Solo books are coming on Friday

New Flight of the Falcon series coming in the fall
A new middle-grade series based around the Millennium Falcon is coming, just in time for October’s Star Wars Reads day. The Flight of the Falcon series will begin with Lando’s Luck, a middle grade novel written by Justina Ireland with illustrations by Annie Wu. Further installments will feature Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca and James’ boy Hondo Ohnaka.
Landing at a docking bay or bookseller near you in time for Star Wars Reads in October, the series of books and comics about the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy will help connect different eras of Star Wars storytelling through the adventures aboard the beloved ship. Each fiction title will include a map to trace the literal flight path and help readers understand the time and place where each story is set.
Bazine Natel, the spy seen on Takodana in The Force Awakens, is on the hunt for the Falcon, and her intel leads her across the galaxy to Batuu, a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge. In order to find the Falcon, Bazine must learn all she can about the infamous YT-1300 freighter—the ship that countless bounty hunters and Imperials have almost caught over the years.
“These tales take us from a time just before Solo: A Star Wars Story, when Lando and L3 had the Falcon, through the original trilogy, and into the new trilogy, ending on the incredible world of Batuu,” says Michael Siglain, Creative Director, Lucasfilm Publishing.
The series will continue with the choose-you-own-adventure A Luke and Leia Adventure, written by Cavan Scott with art by Elsa Charretier and Pirate’s Price, written by Lou Anders with art by Annie Wu, starring Han Solo, Chewbacca and Hondo Ohnaka.

One paperback reprint, two comics and a trade collection this week.
