Gate Geek: Give us another chance with SGU

Stargate Universe producer Brad Wright speaks with Show Patrol about Season 1.5 starting this Friday on SyFy.

He admits to a few mistakes, but also asks everyone to give them the chance to show what SGU can do.  Apparently we’ll be seeing a lot more of what “old time” fans loved about SG1 and SGA; including some aliens, some action and more focus on the women characters.

It would be nice to find more peace amongst the fans with a pulled-together show.  Although I’ll always think “Stargate University” when I see SGU.  (See Dragon*Con’s Stargate track for more on how my strange mind contributed to this year’s programming.)

Browncoats: Redemption is a fanfilm with a cause

Star Wars fans are familiar with the sad time of little official activity.  (Remember the Dark Times?)

So Bart tells us that some Browncoats, not ones to sit around and wait for the occasional awesome comic, are making their own story to bide the time called Browncoats:  Redemption.  In order to avoid painful imitations of beloved characters, they’re creating an all new crew.

And to keep this in the spirit of Browncoats, they’re going to be collecting for charity, including:  Equality Now, Kids Need to Read, Dyslexia Foundation, the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center, and the Marine Corps – Law Enforcement Foundation.

Good luck to them!

Head-to-Head with the internet’s Pablo Hidalgo

Pablo Hidalgo is interviewed by The Sci-Fi Block about his upcoming book Star Wars:  Head-to-Head.

The ultimate fanboy conversation in a book, Head-to-Head intends to examine who would win various mash-ups by using various RPG and card game stats, as well as video games.

Unfortunately, he was unable to match up Threepio against another to see who could talk the other to death.  No one can beat him there! (via)

Deathly Hallows Ham Fest

ComingSoon.net is putting together a series of articles in which they try to pry some quotes out of actors with confidentiality clauses associated with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

There appears to be some real, giddy joy amongst the actors (especially the new ones) about getting to be involved with this monster cast of the UK’s best actors.  Which is totally understandable.

Can they win back everyone so disappointed by the last film?  I suspect so. (via)

Andrew Koenig Found Dead

The son of Star Trek actor Walter Koenig (Chekov) was found dead in Vancouver’s Stanley Park on Thursday.

Andrew Koenig, an actor, writer and director best known for his role as Boner in Growing Pains, had been battling depression for years and had stopped taking his medication a year ago.  He had gone to Vancouver to visit friends when he disappeared on Valentine’s Day.

After his parents received a letter from him that sounded despondent, the Koenigs notified police.  Fandom and the internets took up the cause by posting his picture and linking to the website set up by his friends and family in the hopes that he might be found.  Unfortunately, a private search organized by the family located him in a secluded area off one of his favorite paths.  They shared that he had taken his own life.

Walter and his wife said the following during a press conference:

If you know or are one of those people who feel like you can’t handle it any more, if you can learn anything from this, it is that there are people out there who care. You may not think so, and ultimately it may not be enough, but there are people that care. Before you make that final decision, check it out again, talk to somebody.

Gate Geek – Lt. Scott is not a horn dog

Poor Brian J Smith.  Stargate fans are capable of some major angsting, but he has been on the receiving end of much collective fandom crap for the perception that his character, Lt. Scott, runs around all Captain Kirk-like.  But he asks you to put it into some perspective.

The article is all about how things went in the first half of Season 1 (conveniently available now on DVD).  And it even includes video of him answering a question from his mom, who just can’t seem to get a copy of the poster of her son used to tease the show.  (Ed. – Someone help this poor woman out!)

For those who are having trouble waiting for the show to start up again, The Hiatus Project is in full swing.  (No haters allowed.)
