Star Wars Book Store Run

Alas, no books to offer you this week. But there are a couple of great items in the magazine rack. (Apologies for those who have seen these. My local stores are a bit slow in putting things out.)

Home Theater Magazine – November 2004 – Features not only a review of the Classic Trilogy DVD, but a not-the-usual interview with Mark Hamill.

Sound&Vision Magazine – October 2004 – This one is worth hunting for, folks. Carrie Fisher interviews George Lucas! Now, they’ve given her technical questions to ask that she, of course, makes sound hilarious. Hear about her efforts to make George a pin-up model. Very funny interview in which you get a George who is a little more relaxed. Mostly discussion about home theaters, but interesting, nonetheless.

Goodies for that Star Wars fan

The holiday gift-giving season will be here before you know it. Here are some good gift ideas for that Star Wars fan on your list that will also help some good causes.

The Star Wars Chicks are continuing their good work in the battle against breast cancer by selling pins of their rather adorable logo wearing a pink breast cancer ribbon. All proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Also, the marathon-running stormtrooper will be at it again. This time, he’s running the New York City Marathon in full armour. He is raising funds for the Starbright Children’s Foundation by selling t-shirts. But hurry! He’s on a time deadline.

These would make great gifts and benefit some great causes. Since we’re all going to be useless to the world when Episode 3 comes out, why not make up for it by helping it out, now!

Books and Magazines

Sorry for the delay in posting this week’s news. It was a wacky weekend.

Books
There is much to please the Star Wars fan, this week:

MedStar 2: Jedi Healer – by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry – Not only is this book named after one of our CJ members (at least we like to think so), but we’re finally going to find out the answers to all those dangling mysteries left us after the end of MedStar 1.

Jedi Quest #10: The Final Showdown – by Jude Watson – Has Obi-Wan finally managed to catch up with his arch nemesis? Will Obi-Wan finally manage to have an emotionally fulfilling conversation with his padawan Anakin? You’ll have to read it to find out.

Magazines
I continue to ascert that the UK has the best film magazines. A couple more finally hit the newsstands.

DreamWatch -October, 2004, #121 – This has a great interview with Carrie Fisher and Irvin Kershner. There’s also the usual coverage of all things sci-fi and fantasy.

Empire Magazine – October, 2004 – It’s a Classic Star Wars spectacular! It comes nice and sealed up with a special magazine insert celebrating all things Star Wars.

Those aren’t droids

Ewan McGregor seems determined to sprinkle more family fare into his acting resume.

The first trailer for his upcoming animated adventure Robots has been released.

His neutral American accent keeps getting better and better! But watch out for him to be overshadowed by Robin Williams. Looks amusing, though!

Wars with your Coffee?

Remember when you were younger and actually read the paper every day? It was probably only because you wanted to read the daily Star Wars comic strip.

The Official Site will be running daily comic strips for Hyperspace members every weekday, starting October 4th. Along with reruns of the classic daily comic strip, we’ll also get two new stories. One of those is written by Paul Ens, TOS webmaster and all-around good guy.

Now…if only they could link from there to Ripley’s Believe It, Or Not!

Star Wars Books and Magazines

Alas. Not one, single offering on the book front, this week. However, the deluge of magazines continues!

People Magazine – October 4, 2004 – If you can get past the fact that Britney is on the cover (WHY do we still care?), there’s a lovely, albeit short, interview with one Peter Mayhew.

SFX Magazine – October, 2004 – Did they hear my whining, last week? The ANH covers are out. Look for the Dark Side and Light Side versions. There is coverage of the Ep3 title reveal in the front news section. A great picture of Steve Sansweet with Hayden Christensen and Rick McCallum. Then right after the Classic Trilogy article, on page 56, there is a rumors and speculations on Ep3 article. The Classic Trilogy coverage looks great, though. It includes interviews with Carrie Fisher and Anthony Daniels.

Total Film – September, 2004 – The series of articles on the making of the Classic Trilogy concludes with coverage of Return of the Jedi. There’s a rather large picture of Carrie Fisher and her stunt double sunning in the Slave Leia costume. (Guys…run and get your copies now!) And there are a couple of other pictures I don’t think I’ve seen before.

Go forth. Shop.
