Gate Geek – Extra! We have a segment

Assuming no other tragic circumstances bump it, the entertainment news show Extra! will be airing a behind-the-scenes visit on the set of this week’s episode Harmony.

Speaking of Harmony, Joe Mallozzi posted a behind-the-scenes video on his blog showing a small set-up and (of course) David Hewlett tormenting Jodelle Ferland.

Going back to last week’s episode, the official site posts interviews with episode writer Carl Binder and Katie Brown herself, Brenda James.

Heath Ledger dead at 28

The actor was found dead this afternoon of a possible drug overdose.

Heath Ledger first became a blip on fandom radar in the short-lived fantasy series Roar. Ledger was able to move past that with roles in numerous films; including an Oscar-nominated turn in Brokeback Mountain.

What had fandom really geeked out was his upcoming role as The Joker in The Dark Knight. Initial discussion on the news channels discussed a recent interview he gave in which he said that playing The Joker disturbed him so greatly that he was suffering from insomnia. He said that the character was a sociopath and lacked any redeeming qualities.

In what is sure to become the stuff of legend, the actor had turned to sleeping pills in an attempt to get control over the insomnia that had plagued him since filming of that movie.

Gate Geek – Here there be treasures….

Let’s face it. Our intrepid Mistress of the Web, Dunc, doesn’t get Stargate. And that’s okay, really. But I’m always excited when we’ve apparently seeped into her brain enough for her to find something for us. Warms my tiny little heart, it does!

Could you imagine wandering through a scrapyard and finding a bit of Stargate gold? Any guesses as to what this was used for? Let this blogger know.

Other treasures include:

Gate Geek – Continuous Continuum Coverage

Okay. Not really. But it was a nice alliteration and there is actually some news on Stargate SG1: Continuum to share. But mostly, this is a GateWorld round-up.

Head on over to GateWorld for:

Not to be outdone, the Stargate Atlantis part of the franchise gets coverage for:

Got Sunflower Seeds?

As has become tradition with nearly every show that has faced cancellation (except for maybe Cavemen), fans are trying to organize to save The 4400. This time, the food of choice is the sunflower seed.

Sunflower seed producers rejoice. USA Networks decides to organize an impromptu picnic.

Those wishing to join the insanity, see more information on their portal.

Gate Geek – So what have we missed?

I love going on vacation! I totally forgot to ask someone to fill in on the Stargate beat while I was gone. (Oh, well. The TexMex was totally worth it!) So let’s catch up on what I (but hopefully not you) missed:

  • Stargate is the People’s Choice! – It just goes to show what a little organization and wholesale pimping can do for you. The fans remembered to vote every day and we were able to actually score a two-second mention on the broadcast. (Scroll down to “Favorite Sci-Fi Show” and click on “View Video” to see the full acceptance speech.)
  • Tonight is the Spoils of War – Don’t forget to watch this week’s new episode.
  • Get in the Gate Contest – This year’s chance to win a walk-on role on Stargate Atlantis has opened up. Go! Type away!
  • GateWorld Play – GateWorld has started this nifty little video feature that you might enjoy checking out.
  • Remember Be All My Sins Remember’d – Wonder Geek Martin Gero stopped by Joe Mallozzi’s blog (which moved, by the way) to answer questions about last week’s already-much-beloved episode.
  • For official things – Meanwhile, over on the official website, we get an interview with the delightful Bill Dow (Dr. Lee), more of the interview with beloved director Andy Mikita, and more crowing about the People’s Choice Awards win.
