Gate Geek – Choose Your Own Adventure

Which will you choose?

  • There’s a Fan’s Choice poll to choose the favorite Atlantis episodes to go onto a BluRay Fan Favorites compilation. (via)
  • There’s a video of all the handsome guys at the wrap party held after the last episode was done.  (Which, by the way, scored great ratings.)
  • Or if you prefer to go the SG1 route, there’s a very philosophical interview with Ben Browder about Stargate, Farscape and his general outlook on life.

Gate Geek – Atlantis launches its last puddle jumper

Tonight (Friday) is the series finale for Stargate Atlantis.

Tributes are a bit sparse in official channels, but it promises to be a good one, not only because Picardo says so, but because it’s the 100th episode.  And those tend to be extra good in the Stargate franchise.

So thank you, Atlantis.  It’s been an adventure!  Those of us in Club Jade who are Gate Geeks will be mourning for a while.

Gate Geek: So long, and thanks for all the poker chips

Get out the anti-depressants, folks.  The end is nigh.

The Official Site has put up the teaser for Vegas.  (Their teasers are always so much better than SciFi’s!)  Remember to watch it as you’re recovering from your New Years revelry.

And Robert Picardo comforts us by assuring GateWorld that, in spite of the late notice, the writers have managed to wrap things up well for the series end while still leaving it open for the movie.

At least there’s that.  Now…where did I put that bottle….

Review: The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia

The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia 2.0After going through practically every holiday since 1999 with some sort of “coffee table book” from the Star Wars franchise, you would think that I’d be mentally prepared for the weight associated with it.  Well, I was fooled again with the latest edition of The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.  I nearly dropped the blasted thing (all 12 pounds of it — I weighed it) when I tried to pick it up.

Still, this baby’s beautiful! Three hardcover volumes in a shell.  (Which is making it resemble, more and more The Encyclopedia Brittanica.)  That beautiful Empire red and black coloring.  Images subtly glowing out.  Each hardcover has its own different cover design. Each book has its own quote for the dedication page.  A lot of fun! Continue reading “Review: The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia

It’s not The Musical Edition, but still cool

It’s been done a bit more amusingly as Star Wars: The Musical Edition.  But now it’s officially being offered as a dramatic reading; accompanied by live orchestra and a full choir!

Star Wars: A Musical Journey will be opening in April before going all around Europe.  Tickets go on sale Monday!

A great way to make your parents think you’re finally giving up your geek ways and going to see some culture by attending an orchestra performance.

Gate Geek – Get over it, people

Gate fans are a notoriously picky bunch with (let’s face it) a lot of drahmah and gnashing of teeth about where they want to see the story go and what they want for “their” characters.

Now that Atlantis is coming to a close, the writers appear to be speaking out a bit about the fan complaints; explaining the twists and turns that plot lines and characters can take in a show’s development.  And, basically, telling people to get over it.

Martin Gero (who seems to get the most love-it-or-hate-it reactions to his episodes) talks to GateWorld about the reactions people have to his stories.  (You need to get past the discussion of YPF, first, though.)  And takes the fans to task for their treatment of Keller.

And Joe Mallozzi talks about everyone’s ships, the gay storyline that would have happened if only the episode hadn’t run long, and why things have gone the way they have.

Tartakovsky – How to make friends and influence people

Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of the Clone Wars cartoon (not that one, the first one), spoke at Rhode Island School of Design this past weekend.

Club Jader (and some-day-Pulitzer Prize winner), Caroline Sedano, attended and wrote up this great summary of the event for The Brown Daily Herald.

Club Jade wishes to note that we aren’t the least bit biased about the shining examples of Star Wars reporting done by its members.
