The Force Awakens, Boyega, Ridley, and DK Star Wars book up for Kids’ Choice Awards

Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know (JTFA)It may be no surprise that The Force Awakens is nabbing a bunch of key nominations for the Nickelodeon 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards, but a Star Wars book has also earned a nomination, competing against both Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. DK’s Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, by Adam Bray, Cole Horton, Michael Kogge, and Kerrie Dougherty, is one of six choices to be voted on in the Favorite Book category. Will it stand up to the likes of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Maze Runner? Anyone can vote as much as they want for the Kids’ Choice Awards at nick.com/KCA. Sadly, you can’t skip a category, like Favorite (Music) Collaboration.

In other categories, The Force Awakens has earned nominations for Favorite Movie, Favorite Actor (John Boyega) & Favorite Actress (Daisy Ridley). In the video games category, Disney Infinity 3.0 (which added Star Wars content) is a nominee. The Kids’ Choice Awards will air live on March 12, hosted by Blake Shelton.

Wear Star Wars Every Day kicks off!

Wear Star Wars Every Day promo

With The Force Awakens out now, and Rogue One on the horizon for the end of the year, this seems like a perfect year to celebrate Star Wars every day, and I’ve taken it to the extreme! I hope to wear a different Star Wars-themed clothing item for every day in 2016, and made my goal into a Force for good by turning this project into a charity fundraiser. “Wear Star Wars Every Day” kicked off on January 1, and I’m raising funds for Collateral Repair Project, a grassroots non-profit that provides emergency aid, education, and community support for urban refugees in Amman, Jordan.

If you would like to support this effort, you can make a per-day pledge here. Even pledging 10 cents or 25 cents per day can add up to make a real difference. You can also make a flat donation on the Wear Star Wars Every Day GoFundMe page. After only a few days, we’ve raised $675 in flat donations, and have a total per-day pledge rate of $3.50 per day. You can also help extend my streak by lending or donating Star Wars apparel for me to wear. Get tons more info on the project and what your donations can do for refugees at our Wear Star Wars Every Day resource page and watch the daily updates on the Wear Star Wars Every Day Facebook page or on Twitter with the #WearStarWarsEveryDay tag.

And in non-Star Wars news: Star Trek Beyond, Independence Day: Resurgence and SyFy’s The Expanse

With The Force Awakens on the horizon, a few studios are busy slipping out teasers for their next franchise sci-fi flicks. On Sunday, Twentieth Century Fox released the trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, with Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, and Bill Pullman picking up twenty years after the initial alien attack that was defeated by uploading a Mac virus. They also set up a site to track the history from 1996 to the present, including an explanation of where Will Smith’s character went.

And this morning, Paramount dropped the teaser for Star Trek Beyond, with a heavy dose of action, explosions, and the Beastie Boys. How many Trek films in a row will the Enterprise be destroyed? Idris Elba joins Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto in this film directed by Justin Lin of Fast & Furious fame.

Ready for the big premiere tonight? I’m talking of course of the newest space story to hit the screen, based on an earlier property: The Expanse. Airing in two parts, starting tonight on Syfy, the miniseries is based on the Expanse series of novels by James S.A. Corey, a pseudonym used by Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham, who also penned Star Wars: Honor Among Thieves, one of the last Legends novels. Andrew Liptak describes The Expanse as the new Battlestar Galactica. Check it out tonight and Tuesday night at 10 pm on Syfy. You can also watch part one online. Also on Syfy, starting tonight, is a three-part adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s Childhood’s End.
