This year’s Star Wars movie is Solo in the U.S., but will be called Han Solo in at least some international markers, per the franchise’s official page in Spain.
It’s likely to avoid possible trademark disputes, or perhaps to widen recognition for the film. It’s hardly conclusive, but we saw a version of this in what appeared to be a Russian leak last week.
No matter the title, it’s still expected in late May. (The 25th, here: International release dates may vary.)
Solo’s Ron Howard gives us a look at some very retro steering implements. “Happy New Year from Team #Solo,” the director tweets. “We’re pretty pumped for 2018.”

Just in time for the new year, The Last Jedi has cleared the $1 billion mark in worldwide grosses. Domestically, it’s now passed Beauty and the Beast as 2017’s top-grossing movie.
It’s only just behind Rogue One as the eighth highest-grossing domestic movie of all time, and with only $15 million between them, is likely to pass it within a day or two.
John Williams will be contributing to the Solo soundtrack. “The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly,” he told Variety.
Powell was announced as the movie’s primary composer in July. He’s only the second non-Williams composer to work on a live-action Star Wars film, after Rogue One’s Michael Giacchino.
A promo image for Solo has emerged from the wilds of the internet, giving us our (presumed) first non-fuzzy look at Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo, Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian, whoever Emilia Clarke is playing and the Millennium Falcon’s new/old paint job. Lucasfilm has asked at least one site to take it down, so chances are it’s legit, though a Lucasfilm rep told /Film that they didn’t create it.
The images – one is an exact mirror of the other – appear to be sourced from a Russian PDF, because of course. /Film has a rough translation of the text.
Word on the street is we can expect official promotion for the film to start soon.
The Last Jedi continues to dominate at the box office, passing Wonder Woman‘s box office total on Tuesday. With $423.7 million, it’s now #2 for 2017 and may very well beat Beauty of the Beast’s $504M to take the top spot by the end of the year.
The film took in $32 million on Christmas day and becoming the second-highest holiday grosser, behind only The Force Awakens.
Today (December 27) brings three new comics, two with significant The Last Jedi tie-ins. First up is Storms of Crait #1, with Leia and Leia on the base during the Rebellion. It also comes in two variant covers. Star Wars Adventures #5 brings us more porg content (also in a non-porg cover.) And then there’s Jedi of the Republic: Mace Windu #5.

/Film is back with details on The Last Jedi’s deleted scenes, which include Rey’s third lesson from Luke and Tom Hardy’s cameo.
And now that we’ve all had a chance to take the movie in, the behind-the-scenes stuff has started flowing in… There are several Rian Johnson interviews out and about, with the best perhaps being at the Los Angeles Times. There he talks about introducing new Force powers, Rey and Kylo, and the whole purpose of the shirtless scene. Also: Business Insider, a Variety podcast and The Director’s Cut podcast.
